DRYING!

Dread Maintenance

Maybe NOTa good idea to cover it up while it's wet, that's just my opinion though. I wash my hair first in the shower which gives it plenty of time for water to run off the ends and then I use the towel to lighty squueze my tighter dreads and then just wrap it like you would a towel on your head. Usually by the time I'm done getting dressed I take the towel off and my hair is mostly dry.

Help!

Dreading Methods

I may or may not have replied to this already...but if I have I'm doing it again. I have back combed sections on either side of my head...I don't really like how they look personally. I love the natural part on the back of my head...it's my favorite but I recently tnr'd my bangs and I wish I would have done that on my entire head. If you feel like you have to have "instant" dread I would suggest tnr instead of backcombing, just my opinion.

Loose holey roots, loose ends, itcheeeeeeeeez

General Questions

Your hair is the first hair I've seen that kinda looks like mine, longer though. Mine is doing the same thing. The parts I've back combed seem to let a little hair go every time I wash. I've just been trying to leave it alone or split up the ones that look really terrible. Good luck!

starting dreads advice?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Well if you really have your heart set on dying/bleaching your hair just do it. It's your hair right?? I bleached the SH*T out of mine right before I back combed just to get it closer to my natural color (it was a dark brown almost black and my hair is naturally dirty blonde) and it helped my usually super straight soft hair dread a little on its own. The only problem would be the horrible damage it did too. I would think though if you dyed your hair you probably wouldn't want to use the conditioner afterwards because THAT would losen em. If you bleach or dye it it will dry it out ALOT and will either help your hair dread or make it look terrible with dead and split ends. Your odds are 50/50. Good luck!

Can't decide between staying natural or doing twist & rip

Dreading Methods

I haven't tried tnr but I did back comb the front and then just let the back section go. I have some like "man made" dreads and then the back looks pretty much like yours (after a month). My personal thinking is I love the BACK of my hair, it's doing it's own thing. I like it being natural and watching it change everyday. I know it's hard to be patient but I'm wishing I would have now!

To each their own. Your hair looks amazing. Thin dreads or not...they're pretty awesome.

WHOA! Sounds painful...I back combed and then palm rolled for the first week (until I found this site <3) and had a problem with one in back I thought was nicely placed but really just looked like shit so I had to take it out. It took me like an hour but i managed to sort or flatten it out and keep spreading it flat and ended up with a huge afro of hair from the one spot. It's frustrating but I would think taking your time would have been better on your poor scalp.

my roots are bubbled!! is this normal???

Dread Maintenance

I've been noticing the same thing and I'm finding that it helps my hair sit closer to my head so it can actually lay down finally. I back combed mine too so I delt with a scary ass afro for the first two weeks or so but as they're twisting they look way nicer, not to mention tighter than they have so far. With my hair the whole dread kind of turns or twists and causes a loop or bubble at the roots. I think it's making them look much nicer, it's exciting :)

Bangs with dreadlocks...what to do

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

no haven't tried a tam at bedtime yet. nothing stays on my head when i sleep. i just grab the bangs and braid em and use a hairtie and then i have to wake up and either wet them down or straighten them to get the wave out...hoping to take a trip to the city nearby and have some options on stuff to cover up my head! :)
