Bangs with dreadlocks...what to do

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Going on three weeks now. The sides where I backcombed are starting to tighten up and definitely do their own thing. So you think once they tighten up a lil more the bangs won't be such a headache??? I love the IDEA of bangs but they're pissing me off haha

how long have you had dreads/bangs? after a while the dreads learn their place and stop eating the long bang hairs it seems like. i had mine long and flowing before and didn't really have any issues after a couple months. then i cut them short and it looks like a different hairstyle. i just like the versatility that bangs give me, but it is a pain in the ass because i have to get them wet so they aren't sticking straight out before i leave the house.

Bangs with dreadlocks...what to do

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I decided when I started my dreads that I wanted to hang onto a little bit of brushable hair so I left the front section and trimmed it up: voila! bangs...I thought it would be nice but I'm finding they're kind of a pain, my dreads are trying to eat my bangs first of all and there isn't much you can do with them. I find myself getting a headache from bobbypins. I guess I'm wondering if YOU have bangs what you like to do with them or how you keep them in check. I also find myself having to braid them up or pin them back at night because, like I said before my dreads are trying to eat them. Any suggestions?

New to this site...new to dreads

Introduce Yourself

I'm starting to get used to it I suppose. There's days where I wake up and wonder "Uhhhhhhhhh, really?" But then I realize I don't look in the mirror anyways :) I just tell people who have comments to make about it that THEY'RE the ones who have to look at my hair not me, I don't care. My goal in all this is LONG beautiful hair, without all the work. I've never had long hair but I'm going to try and accomplish this...I'm gonna stick it out, I honestly can't say I've ever stuck with much of anything in my life but here I go: watch me :)

Introduce Yourself

Yeah...maybe I was a bit rough with it...That was two weeks ago and I haven't done anything to it since, don't wanna mess with it. I think it's easier that way, definitely. I'm just SUPER impatient...Guess I'll have to be with my dreads though :) Guess the problem now is finding some INEXPENSIVE tams or headwraps to help hide the mess for awhile. Haha...Please excuse the mess! Under construction!

Introduce Yourself

Okay...now I feel like an idiot. Back combing DOES hurt...reeeeaaaally bad. I'm so happy I didn't use wax though, something about melting wax into a mat of hair sounded like a bad idea. This is definitely my new favorite site...FULL OF INFO! Yay!

New to this site...new to dreads

Introduce Yourself

Okay...so I kinda jumped into this head first. I did do some research online for about a week, but once I decided I was gonna dread my hair I couldn't wait...IT HAD TO BE DONE. So anyways...I know absolutely no one with dreads. I'm actually really excited I came across this site because at least I can have some input/advice from people who think that natural hair is as pretty as I do :) I mean reeaally excited, considering my best friend says I look like a cave person, not nice right? I guess for now I'll just introduce myself, I'm Sheresa and I'm 22 and my dreads are 2 weeks old. I decided to back comb the front part and just let the back part go. If anyone feels like answering a question or two from me, is it normal for my roots and ends to be smooth/loose while the rest is dreaded? And what about my stray hairs? There's a ton, just not really sure what will help or hinder the process right now and any advice is appreciated

Peace

What do you wash with?

Introduce Yourself

For about a week now I've been using Mango and Lime Shampoo "for locks and twists"(my dreads are only a couple weeks old). My hair feels SUPER dry after I use it, which I guess is good but I'm confused how a shampoo could claim it's good for locks but lather at the same time......? I thought I needed to find something with no lather? I also heard if it doesn't leave a smell (and it doesn't)it's not leaving crap in your hair. So this foams up, makes your scalp tingly (seriously, like you could breathe through your head)and then dries out your hair. I can't wait til the bottle's gone so I can try something else....
