a interlocking loctician wanted to show me how great interlocking is

Dreading Methods

I'm pretty sure he's using the scissors to "tame" the fuzzies :(People take a pair of scissors and run it along the length of the dread to trim stray hairs and fuzzies.

How often and how do u wash your head ?

Dread Maintenance

I wash my hair a couple times a week now since it is a little colder. If I can make it a week, which is rare, then I go a week.I dilute my shampoo in a spray bottle so I can hit my scalp or I will be working all day to get it there :)

Keeping them dreads covered

Dread Maintenance

Definitely using a satin pillowcase will help with linties. Also, what you wear on a regular basis will play a role as well.I hate having my hair fall in my face at night when I sleep. Or worse yet, when my locs were longer with my first set I would constantly roll over on my hair and it was just uncomfortable for me.That dreadloc soc is great :)

Keeping them dreads covered

Dread Maintenance

http://www.dreadsock.com/ I bought one with my first set of dreads. If your hair is a dark color, lint will look terrible in your locs :(I think there are similar products out there. Or if you know someone that can sew something similar up for you, it beats tying a pillow case around your head, LOL.

:( why isnt my hair locking?

Introduce Yourself

You got to give it more time :)You may see signs next week or in a couple of months.Since you are going all natural (I assume), you could try rinsing your hair more often outside of your regular washes. It can help the "locking" process and can help your scalp a bit. It is worth a try unless you live where it is cold.No matter what though.... be patient.

twists

Introduce Yourself

I'm not sure I understand...you want to make your hair nappy?Do you have a looser texture or something?Either way, you can just leave your hair alone and let it dread and separate as you go or you can start with twists and continue to twist your roots or leave your initial twists alone and let them dread. There are different avenues you can take.Do you have a pic of your hair?

I'm having trouble with getting my dreads started help!!!

Introduce Yourself

Need a little more info...how do you want to start your dreads?Even though this site frowns upon this, you can use a starter method like twists, braids, comb coils, etc. then you can either let them be from there or maintain by twisting.Or you could freeform from the start and just separate your roots so you will get the size dreads you want. It's entirely up to you...

The importance of daily hot water rinses

Dread Maintenance

I did a lot of water rinsing when I first started locking. It does help speed up locking (for me) and I agree that in the baby stages, it should be fine.My hair is fully locked now and I occasionally just do a water rinse but I no longer feel the need but I do wash my hair every other day (any longer and my scalp itch/flaking is insane) and do wonder about my hair getting dry inside between washes. Where I live it is hot as hell in the summer so I don't worry too much about it too much then :)Either way you should go for it!

Introduce Yourself

I started my dreads with braids. Are you going to freeform from there or twist?I latched a few times but then decided to freeform.
