Would you put Dreads on your Child?
General Talk
I have two children --a teenage son and an 11 year old girl. My son decided (before me lol) that he wanted dreads so we of course let him. On the other hand, my daughter (who has long, wavy hair) has told me that although she loves dreadlocks--she doesn't want them herself...and honestly this drives me crazy because she hates brushing her hair and if we don't bug her about it everyday she just doesn't brush. It always ends up with me separating dreads that have formed in her hair and suggesting keeping the dreadlocks and her saying nope. :PWhen my children were very young we decided that we would never force any of the things on our children that were forced on us as we grew up. Therefore my children were both brought up as vegetarians (I didn't cook meat and didn't want to feed it to them before they could make the decision to eat flesh themselves.) When they were old enough and had all of the facts regarding eating meat vs. being vegetarian they both opted for veganism. Of course they always had the opportunity to try flesh when they were at relatives and friends houses and we never discouraged them if they wanted to taste different things.I guess we take this same approach towards dreading hair-if I had it to do over (now that I know much more about dreadlocks and the process and history etc) I would most likely let their hair dread since that is the most natural state imo, and when they were old enough to make the choice they could opt for whatever styles they wanted. As far as other people/children making fun--my babies were brought up to be proud of their differences and uniqueness--they know that people are usually mean because they are either feeling threatened and scared , feeling jealousy, or simply don't know any better. And btw--Pranee I would LOVE to see pictures of your punk rock baby! Sounds adorable
And Island Mamma your daughter is beautiful, just like her mommy!
