Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

So try that page I recommended, it makes a paste to leave on your scalp, that should help it out. :)

Hard water = Dandruff?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I have hard well water & never get dandruff. Since day one of dreading (1yr), I have used the baking soda, acv rinse, finishing with a cold rinse. Have you tried doing a deep cleanse with baking soda to lift all that away from your scalp? Certain essential oils will help for extreme dandruff, my mouse is not working well to post the recipe link, but type in the search bar "essential oils dandruff Soaring Eagle" and this page will certainly help you.

Do not use regular dandruff shampoo as a last resort, it WILL leave a residue

Peace

Is your hard water from a well or the city?

Washing Dreads

Dread Maintenance

Hi Paul. At the end of your shower is when a good cold head rinse is added. This closes the pores on the scalp that produce natural body oil.

Baby dreads and tying them up. Help please

Introduce Yourself

Hi Ladie J. Hair will dread faster if left loose to move around. The twist & rip sections are a blueprint to your dreads and need to loosen in order to become mature dreads. They go on a journey of shrinking, looping and changing all the time. They need to be free!!! If you must tie them up, do it just before you need to and take them out as soon as you can. Just leave them loose as much as possible. Oh yeah, don't tie them up too tight. Peace

Husband not used to the idea yet.

General Talk

My husband is still not with the program. I'm half way to mature locks and he does not have imagination to see my dreads in one more year. He is a completely bald & tidy guy, I drive him crazy!

I imagine that your husband and mine will love our locks when they are mature and will love the comments from others guys who tell them our dreads are sexy & beautiful.

!!ARGH!!HELP!!

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Hi there. With the twist & rip method, the ideal way is to let your hair section naturally for a couple of weeks first. It will tell you how it wants to separate. These are the sections you should use. Naturally separated hair does not section into straight lines or grid lines, it is all random. No section should be larger than 1 inch/ 25 cent coin. With thin hair you may want the section at the root smaller than that.

When the hair is loosely twist&ripped, it will appear skinnier than the mature dread will be. The mature dread will become the thickness of your root section, it slowly feeds its way up and becomes thicker. Never twist tight, do not re-twist any coming undone. Twist & rip is just a blueprint, not an actual dread, they need to loosen, sometimes even coming out, so that they can do their looping, zig-zagging, and shrinking. They will also frizz in the early stages.

I know it takes a long time to do the sections, but I would start over and let the hair naturally separate. Some of your sections are too big, I would take everything out since you just did them, and let the hair naturally form its sections. Still divide any large sections. You will have a natural map to your dreads this way. :) Peace

Fast Progression (Is it good or bad?)

General Questions

The speed of dreading is different from one person to the next. Curly hair usually dreads way faster. Hair textures, water, washing frequency, movement of hair also play a part. You hair is having its crazy journey and there is nothing to worry about, just enjoy the ride.

If you use Dr. Bronners & have hard water, it does not rinse out properly and leaves a residue which builds up in time. Not all shampoos & soaps work well with hard water. If you think this might be your problem, use a anti residue soap like Neutrogena to get the build up out. This stuff is strong and should only be used 2-3 times a year if needed. Always rinse really really well after washing, finish off with a cold head rinse :) Peace

Trim loose hair on the body of the dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Such a shame when people who want dreads are unaware of the crochet damage to hair. Instead of long, continuous strands of hair joining together, those sections have broken pieces of hair the entire length of it. As the guys said, they will recover in time. If you want your dreads for life, please have the patience to wait for your hair to repair on its own. The the slow little sticking out hair feeding frenzy begin.
