Smoker probs

Dread Maintenance

Just go to the dollar store and buy a couple of small water spray bottles, fill with water &, as SE said, add a few drops of your favorite essential oils. A spritz of that will get your locks smelling nice. You will smell wonderful. Make one to leave and home and one to take to work :)

Starting dreads

Dreading Methods

Are you asking how to start them for your or for your toddler? For a toddler, just wash their hair with water, they don't produce oils like teens & adults do.

Starting dreads

Dreading Methods

Hi Eb2u. The best way to start dreads is by the neglect method. All you do is throw away the comb or brush, stop using conditioners & residue shampoos, keep them clean and let them dread. They will separate on their own and begin their journey.

What kind of hair do you have and how long is it?

ACV rinse

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Not sure what you mean by "my hair is all soft & dread anymore" Brandy, but twist & rip sections do need to loosen in order to dread, so if this is what happened, then that's good. If you do not have dread shampoo, then keep using the baking soda wash. The BS exfoliates the scalp and cleans it without the hands rubbing.

Twist & rip dreads will not look the same as when you first did them. That was only the blueprint of the sections that you made. They will loosen, maybe come undone if not tight, zig, zag, loop and shrink, the changes are amazing to see.

Don't be sad on your journey, embrace it, embrace the changes, know that everything that happens is so that beautiful mature dreads will be created because of it.

Peace

ACV rinse

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Brandy, please don't palm roll your dreads, it has only temporary benefits to the look and long term damage to the locks. As, BeauZay said, the ACV is a rinse only. In case you do not know the measurements, it is 1-2 capfulls of ACV mixed in 5 cups water. Pour over head and rinse, don't leave on for more than 1 minute. If you don't have dreadlock shampoo, use the Baking Soda wash, I have used it for a year now.

Peace

I think I'm just going to neglect it.

Dreading Methods

You made a great decision to start with the neglect method. I went neglect only long enough to let my hair naturally section, then I did T&R and even though I was careful not to go tight, some of the skinnier were, so that is why I think I have some knobby looking ends on them. The ones that were done very loosely are coming along beautifully and are forming all the way up the section. If I could do it all over again, like if time turned back, then I would go all the way neglect. So good choice & happy dreading.

Glad you have dread shampoo too.

Salon Damage

salon and loctician dreads recovery

I wonder how these ones at the sides hang on with all the weight of the bun. That would hurt like hell, look at the pulling.

Salon Damage

salon and loctician dreads recovery

Found this picture on Google Images and wanted to share it with members going to, or thinking of going to a salon. It has been posted here before, but I wanted the newer members to see this.

Look at the hair loss.... Look how tight they are at the roots.... her twists are so tight that the hair has been pulled out by the roots. Roots should NEVER be tight to the scalp, every time the locks move it pulls on the hairs & roots. When you notice your roots are loose, don't worry, they need to be. When the gentle wind blows your dreads, you'll enjoy the dance your locks do as they won't be pulling at your scalp, you may even dance with them.

Do not get your dreads worked on, do not re-twist, let them grow and become a part of you.

The only maintenance required for healthy locks is to keep em clean and separate any joining locks. That's it, that's all you have to do. Guaranteed this photo will never happen to you.

Peace all
