It all depends on how much hair you have... I have thick hair and I ended up with 60 something...cant ever get an exact count LOL! But you want to stagger it like laying a brick wall. If you dont you will have block-y sections on top of one another and lots of empty space!! hope that helps!!

Yeah my hair is to my butt and I backcombed. All of them came loose in different areas, but then they tightened up again and on and on. I'm 3 months in, and now I have crazy loops everywhere. Its just part of the process. Just let them do their thing.

Dont wash your dreads at night...you will have mold. Do it early in the day so you have plenty of time to dry!!

Yeah I was kinda thinking the same...I'm full of loops right now...so they are deff* alive and moving. I do admit though its a bitch keeping them sectioned. Mostly at the roots though...and ripping causes more loose hair and uggg just seems like a vicious circle. Plus everyone warns not to twist...which is what I did at first (till coming here) to keep the loose hairs were they belonged. Do you mind if I ask how you went about it?

Hey Everyone,

I need to ask about wrapping dreads...especially roots. Is this a good idea?? I'm 3 months in, started with backcombing... and all I do is separate after washing. The reason I ask is because its becoming more difficult to separate/section them now...and quite painful I might add!!

I dont have any beads nor can I afford any...yet...what I do have is hemp...would that do?

I haven't really had any issues...I keep mine tucked behind my ears, and they seem to stick to themselves LOL!

hmmm only tip I can think of, is keep your dreads tied back? or maybe just let them do what they want... I dont even brush mine...just with my fingers.
