A Little Concerned I Went a Bit Too Thin

Dreading Methods

i think your worring to much for real. they sound like some skinnies but if that's what you wanted than your set. if your really concerned that they are too small you can let them congo, maybe bead them together to promote their growing together and give it some time.tnr works best for smaller dreads in my experience, the ends i used to pull on separated into 2 or more smaller dreads instead of holding together as one. i prefer a good combination for both tnr and backcombing that worked really well on my current set, manly using tnr to knot up loose ends.

backomb update

Introduce Yourself

if you keep backcombing they are going to take forever to mature. every time you re-backcomb you basically start the dread over because you a pulling the hair from old knots that are establishing themselves and creating new ones. stop freaking out about the looseness and chill, hair dreads, that what it does naturally, let it go and let them develop some more, you've barely gotten you toes in the water

is me backcombing them again gunna make my dreads in the future unhealthy?

Oooops... you're only supposed to backcomb once, to kickstart the process. It's totally normal for some of it to unravel and loosen up. Re-backcombing constantly won't help it lock, in fact it will undo a lot of the progress your hair is making naturally.

Just leave it alone and don't mess with them anymore. They'll loosen up and re-knot and maybe unravel a bit again over the next few months... this is all part of the dreading process, so don't mess with it. See the FAQ for more info on this. Good luck!

Fly away strays and puffy ends

Dread Maintenance

lumps bumps and loops are all normal and part of the process, i believe it has a lot to do with the actual locking and tightening and it's a positive sign of progress, nothing to worry about. i'm not sure what you mean about the puffy parts though.i'm not familiar with dread perms but isn't that where they use a chemical to damage the hair? i would think this could cause some trouble in the future as the damaged parts may break off and you'll end up with more loose hair while you wait for the new growth to dread but regardless, with dreads, the answer to all problems seems to be time and patience

i've used it, it gave me the worst dandruff ever after awhile, but it was alright at first i guess. although i would say best bet would be to check out the etsy shops or maylee's if you want to buy a dread specific shampoo, i would recommend anything from knottyboy over dhhq if you do go that route; Short of being wax peddlers i really liked they shampoo bar and the bee-washed pre-dreading and dewaxing soap.

a lot of people like dr b's, i don't care for it personally but if you want to check it out, see if you have a trader joe's in your area, they sell the big bottles for 10 bucks, cheapest i have ever seen it anywhere else. of every thing i have tried though, i prefer bs with some sea salt added, it's cheap, easy and get things clean

ACV BAKING SODA WASH?

Dread Maintenance

i usually use 3/4 cup of bs with 2 tbsp of sea salt in a gallon pitcher of warm to hot water, mix it up and let it dissolve, then pour over your head and make sure you get everything covered, paying more attention to washing your scalp than the dreads.i usually throw a towel over my head to control the dripiness and smoke a bowl or a cigarette then rinse in the shower, so probably let it sit like 5-10 minutes. no scrubbing or anything, just let the water rinse it clean; if you want to use the acv, you will want to rinse your head after the bs, then mix up some acv with water and pour that over your head then rinse it clean. the acv will cause a reaction to the bs so it all washes clean, but it is recommended to rinse between the bs and acv rinses because the chemical reaction could be corrosive and weaken dreads if it's done often, but the acv does restore ph balance to your scalp which is helpful for scalp health.it's easy to use to much acv, so i would say take it easy and experiment to find what works for you, i don't use it at all as my heads always been oily anyway and it does more harm than good

Bad dreads.

Dreading Methods

i know it's not for a spray, but i like to use sea salt with baking soda when i wash my head, usually 1/2-2/3 cup of baking soda and 2 or 3 tbsp of sea salt in a gallon of water, let it all dissolve and mix it up then pour it on. if your head is greasy or your concerned about conditioning loose locks don't worry about the acv, that's been working well for me, i do my wash that way about 2 times a week and i think my locks are doing really well for 3 weeks.as for a spray, would just start with 2 or 3 tbsp of sea salt and add water, most say to add until the water tastes similar to tears or sweat. i used to add some lemon juice to my spray as well, would spray it on right before taking a long walk because the sun and lemon juice can lighten your hair over time. you should be able to find more exact recipes if you google it or something, just be sure to keep the nozzle clean cause the salt can cause it to clog up, which is another reason to take care and ensure you rinse well so you don't get white crusty build up in your hair. and it can dry out your scalp and cause dandruff pretty good if you leave it on there.

DREADLOCKS IN BALI

Dreading Methods

your on the wrong forum to be asking silly questions like this, and if you don't care how they look than why ask?i guess it would be cool to get crochet dreads and then wax them up so when they fall off you'll have some sweet moldy hair candles you can burn, that'd smell pretty awesome for sure!
