Dreading Methods

I understand what you are saying Mylaylay. But remember...it is hard to communicate on a key board. Can't see someones expressions or hear their tones. I think a lot of comments seem harsher written down. It would be different if we were all sitting in the same room.

Poor girl. I bet she couldn't sleep for a week. I know how bad that one little tight hair can feel. Can't imagine my whole head feeling like that. Ouch is all i can say. I don't know...is it just me, but i really couldn't see what he was doing...especially with those scissors. I am sure there are people that like the checker board look. But I hope her dreads don't fall off. For some reason some people actually think that is what dreads are supposed to look like.

If you look and the first comment ....Rawsum kindly posted a link that will explain how to make the Baking Soda rinse. The acv (apple cider vinegar)rinse is explained in here too. I use it and it works great for me. Using Dr Bronners is good too just make sure it is diluted in water. It is too much to use full strength. If those don't work for you and you feel better using a shampoo.....make sure it is residue free. Don't want residue attracting dirt and mildew.

yes take those rubber bands out right now !! They break your hair for one thing for another they keep your hair from moving around and making real knots. and they leave indentions. Clean hair dreads faster. So wash em when they get dirty. I wash mine about once a week, but more often won't hurt your hair

sea salt is very drying. It does help the knotting process some....but you wanna keep it off of your scalp. Your journey has only been for 10 days...so you are gonna experience unraveling. It takes at least a year for a dread to mature. What you have done is start the process. Now stop backcombing....excessive backcombing is only gonna damage your hair....it isn't gonna make that year pass any quicker.

How often and how do u wash your head ?

Dread Maintenance

i wash my hair when i feel like it. Usually once a week. Sometimes twice a week. I have gone as much as two weeks on occasion but i get that gross creamy build up on my head when i do. I hate that build up yuck. My scalp never itches so i don't use that as an indicator.

Well hello :)

Introduce Yourself

a lot of my tips rounded on their own. i think it had to do with the length and rubbing on my shoulders. the rest of them i rounded by rubbing the tip on my flattened palm. Imagine your dread held like a pencil and your palm is a piece of paper, draw little circles. i like the scratchy tickly feel on my hand. took a long time to happen about a year. It is something i did when i was sitting at a red light or bored waiting somewhere. Many people keep the ends loose. Loose ends wick the water and can help your hair dry faster. It is really just a personal choice. but like Knottysleeves said it won't work on baby dreads.

Drying your Dreads...

Dread Maintenance

loli got a box of shamwow last year for christmas. I sewed a few together to make it big enough to fit around my hair. When i wash my hair i squeeze out some excess water and then wrap it up in my shamwow for about 10 minutes. I know alot of people who occationally dry their dreads with a blow dryer and it doesn't seem to hurt. I just don't use one because i don't own one lol
