Begining in a few days. Have some questions.

Introduce Yourself

Dreads will look amazing on you!! Choose the method that is right for you. The neglect method is obviously the healthiest. but not everyone has that much patience. I personally have a hodge podge of different methods on my head. Read about them here on this site and choose which method is best for you. It takes a long time for dreads to form no matter what method you choose. Also look at the pictures and get an idea of how thick you would like yours to be. Some people like thick other people like thin.Dreads don't have to be washed as often as loose hair but the knotting happens better on clean hair. oil hinders the knot. The BS works really well for me...but it doesn't work for everyone. If you decide to use shampoo make sure it is residue free...and that it washes out completely. And has no conditioners. Conditioner is not a baby dreads friend. Also make sure your hair is dry after wash it before you pull it up or cover it with a scarf or hat. Putting damp dreads up encourages mildew. Mildew and mold is more of a concern in mature dreads but it is good to start out using good habits.I am glad you decided to start them !!! You will love them.

Roots?

Dread Maintenance

anything manually that tightens locks at the scalp also pulls out some hair and breaks some too leaving even more loose hair to grow in. Sleeping on your dreads and letting them move around is all you need to do to dread those roots.

Sleep time dread wrapping

Dread Maintenance

I do not have the glorious 20 yr old dreads that Soaring Eagle has. I just know from my own personal experiences that dreading happens without nite caps. I can't sleep with clothes on....there is no way I'm gonna sleep with something on my head. Why do you feel the need to have something on your head? Is it very cold where you live ?

and i can see so much sectioning going on in your pictures. Yours are going to be wonderful !!!! I admire you for your patience....i am one of those people that have to get a boost. Mature dreads don't wanna be dry...but baby dreads need to stay away from the oil. Oil is your enemy right now...it will undo those pretty sections. Stick with the bs use that luxurious soap on your skin.

Dread Maintenance

when i started dreading mine...i didn't have to work or go to school so i had lots of time to play. I backcombed a lot of them and twisted/ripped a few, braided a couple and left the rest to do their own thing. I have a mishmash of all kinds of things going on lol. Thank god i had not heard of crochet because i might have tried that too. You are right about doctor bronners. I have been using it for more than 20years on my body...have used it only a few times on my hair. I just read the ingredients...it is weird. It says Pure castile soap but in the ingredients that isn't even there.

Zum bar soap

Dread Maintenance

I have never tried it. I would use it on my body but it contains way too much oil to use on my dreads. My dreads are only a couple years old and my hair is not real dry or brittle. All that oil is very moisturizing and very good for your skin....but do you really need or want that much oil in your hair?

having a "will my dreads ever recover from crochet" day...

Dreading Methods

it isn't really fair to your dreads to compare the feel of them to your friend's temporary accidental baby dread. it isn't gonna feel the same cause her's is not a mature dread.
