dealing with ignorance

General Talk

sorry but i just gotta vent:

its so hard to love your own family sometimes, especially when they are being ignorant. no one in my family supports my dread journey. and while i know what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, in the end it still hurts. my grandmother visit for christmas and just hearing her talk is irritating. she talks about how "all jewish women are bitches" and claims that i need to wash my hair cause she can "smell" it. then in the same breath says, "to each his own".

why is the world packed with hypocrites? Why can't we all get over the stereotypes?why is acceptance so hard to find? Your family is supposed to love and support you no matter what, yet it seems that they are the ones who are against me the most. How do you guys deal with close minded people? :'(

Short dreads styles

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

i got my locs to b a bit skinnier by using embroidery floss and wrapping them up for a few weeks, but u have to wrap the ENTIRE dread cause any part that isnt covered up is the part where the dread is gonna jet out and bump up. im going to attach some before and after pics so you can see how thick my locks used to beAs for hair styles:-try half up half down (its my personal fave)-or sometimes I put a tam on top of em w/o putting any of the dreads inside the tam-> helps to cover up the frizzies and show off locks at the same timehope this helps, happy dreading :)

so i just uploaded some pics (sorry for the quality --- they were taken from my computer)

and i was wondering what you guys have to say, if anything

i've been trying to make the sections smaller as you guys have said they are pretty big

i also have unflipped some of the sections that i could easily feel / see and do WELL (at least my best attempt)

im having my friend come back on thursday to help me out a little

ive been wearing a beanie all day everyday for the past 3 days and then taking it off to sleep

any other advice????
a lot of wut ur friend said is misinformation. for one u dont wanna wash as normal for at least a few months. baby dreads r fragile especially backcombed ones (unravel easily) if i were u id was like once a week for a few months n then gradually lead up to ur regular wash regimen. also crocheting, root flipping, n wax/gel or whatever r never worth it. they always cause more harm than help. honestly u might wanna consider combing it out n starting over ...either way u should definitly start ignoreing that friends "advice". all the info and advice u need can b found on this site.

should i get dreads?

Introduce Yourself

My reason for starting dreads was exactly the same as yours! (except i dont have time to brush my hair on account of loving long hair and being half black-knots-) Just make sure that your ready for the commitment. The secret to dreadlocks is TIME. Like I've committed to having my dreads for at least 3 years before I seriously consider going back to brushed out hair

Aloe Vera

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

i just break off a piece in half than squeeze out the gel. i am lovin my aloe plant too... i went to the store and couldnt find 100% aloe vera so I went to homedepot instead and just got a plant for under 4$. at first i was nevous cause the plant wasnt doing well in homedepot but as soon as i took it home and potted it it bloomed like no other! its in the cactus family so aloe vera is super easy to grow (for anyone without a green thumb) and i figure that i saved a lot of money in the end. horrrayy for aloe plants!
