ok i get a big bottle of neutrogena antiresidu shampoo its pretty cheap and you can get it at walmart.

i mix it in a 250 ml bottle fill it about 3/4 with shampoo add 2 drops oil of origano, 2 drops teatree oil and 3 drops rosemary or lavender and fill the bottle with aloe vera gel. thats it. you can use other oils its just that iv found these oils to be particularily great on my hair and scalp, especially since adding the origano my head feels tingley and very clean.it has a mild earthy smell wich i love. the aloe makes it liquidy ifind iteasier to spread around when im washing my hair. i hope you try it and tell me what you think.:)

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

hey guys im not too experienced at the whole dreadded thing but i love it and right away came to my own conclusions that one of the most important things for dreaddies is to make sure your scalp is well taken care of. right? ok so i have been doing some experamenting with essential oils at home and i guess you could say inventing some products for my own use on my newly dreadded hair. well the last time i mixed my shampoo i tried something different. i wasnt sure of the benifits of this oil when i did it but found out after i had used it a few times wondering why my head felt so supper clean and tingley. i added 3 dropps of oil of origano to my shampoo and have washed with this mixture now about 6 times. you can litterally feel the effects it has on your scalp. a clean tingley feeling that lasts and lasts, also when i first decided to dread i had some dandruff issued wich are completely gone since i stumbled upon this miracle. i did some reasearch on the stuff and found its medicinal properties to be simmilar and possibly even more powerful than teatree oil.

it can effectively cure dandruff by killing the bacteria that causes it. soothes and itchy scalp (any itchy spots on your skin actually, i have proof of this because i used it to treat a skin infection my daughter had after the antibiotics the drs gave her for it were uneffective for months. it was an instant cure in 2 applications it was gone :)) the effects of this oil are anti fungal, anti viral, and anti parasitic. in short this oil applied to your regular washings will keep your hair and scalp free of infections caused by bacteria viruses or even bugs!!! this to me seems like a miracle oil for ppl with dreadlocks because sometimes we cannot help what kind of stuff gets trapped in our hair and theres no way of knowing or getting it out in some cases.

i am willing to bet that this oil is not widley known to most as an oil that can be used in our hair but i can attest that it is doing things to my hair and scalp that i really like. i will use this oil from now on i finally found something that works for all kinds of scalp problems common among dreadlock wearers. i just wanted to share this experience with you because it is the only thing that i have tried so far that has worked so well. and when i looked it up i found that it even is used in some cases for hair growth, i would imagine the reason it is used for hair growth is because it kills infections and virused and fungus that slows down hair growth.

to any of you who are wanting to give it a try i must warn that it has a very strong smell , a smell that compliments my shampoo in the first place so i like it. also a small few have experienced allergic reactions to this oil because of its potency so if you are wanting to try it i would suggest testing perhaps on a patch of skin first to make sure you will not react badly to it. also that it MUST be diluted, this oil cannot be applied directly to the skin it must be diluted first. now what i do is just add 2 or 3 dropps of it to my shampoo as i mix it in a 230ml bottle.

im also happy to share my recipe for the shampoo that i make it is easy to make and has helped my hair to dread really fast keeps it clean and smells good too. good luck on your own journeys :) lots of love <3

How often is too often to rip dreads apart?

Introduce Yourself

thanx ill check out these videos to make sure im doing it right. yes usually when i do it most of them go right down to the scalp. some are dreadded so far up that i cant separate to the scalp but its the ones that are going right to the scalp that im having a problem with. maybe i will try to leave some space close to my head so that this stops happening. i wash and separate about twice a week. im starting to think that that might be too much or maybe i should just separate every other time that i wash.

How often is too often to rip dreads apart?

Introduce Yourself

I have been doing next to nothing to my baby dreads for some time now besides washing regularly. The only matinance I do to my locks these days is ripping. I do this every time I wash my dreads when they are still wet because washing seems to get them to want to stick together. I noticed lastnight after I washed my hair and was separating them that I am starting to get what appears to me to be bald spots in between my sections. Is this normal? Or am I just separating too much?

looking for some advice

Dreading Methods

There are all kinds of methods you can use. I backcombed mine myself at home. I had tied them with elastics to keep em separate for the first couple weeks and then when they started to tighten I took out the elastics. A great thing about backcombing is that you get instant dreadlocks. Lots of ppl like the twist n rip method as well or you could just leave it alone and let it do it's thing if your hair is curly it should start to dread up pretty quick. I have a 3 yr old son with Curley hair and if I don't brush it for a day it will start to form baby dreads in literally hours.

Dread Maintenance

thanx guys i think i will continue to let my hair do what its going to do naturally amd maybe help them to separate if thats what it wants to do. i dont think i can comb them out iv tried this on one before and even with thick conditioner the knots are pretty tight and hard to comb thru. if they continue to grow apart i will eventually have to separate them somehow. and i wont flip the roots.

Dread Maintenance

hi :) im a bit over the 2 month mark in my dread journey so far and i am encountering a problem. i did my dreads myself at home, i used the backcombing meathod. i found this site a couple of weeks ago and have been letting my hair do its thing ever since. i dont think my hair liked the way i sectioned it because there are alot ofdreads that i created that seem to be trying to separate into twoor more seperate locks. now it looks kind of funny because some of my dreads arebig and fat at the bottom and the parts that are growing out look like they want to be a bit smaller than i made them. so im wondering if i should maybe root flip some of them just to help them separate theway the naturally want to go and then maybe later on i can rip em apart. i already had to rip one appart it was trying to make 3 seperate locks and was a big mess until i separated it. i know most of you are against root flipping but it wouldnt be to tighten up the roots it would be to help my locks to separate the way they naturally seem to want to go. any advice on what i should do with this delema would be helpful. thanx.

Really need help now BS not good :(

Dread Products

Hi if your looking for a good cheap shampoo that works good for locks and won't leave a residu try neutrogena antiresidu shampoo. Iv been using this since the beginning and it works great I also use aloe to help with moisturization. Iv added a few essential oils to my shampoo. If you can get your hands on some teatree oil that should clear up any dandruff you might have. You only need to add 2 or 3 drops to your shampoo. I hope that helps.
