They definitely look great. You don't even need the bands, not to mention that they will hurt the process. No need to palm roll either. That causes some weakness.

Just let them be. If they look that good now, they won't change much if you just stop trying to maintain them

And yeah, I'd skip the cut. No reason to shorten your hair if you are planning on growing it out again. I stopped getting my hair cut at all for 2 years before I decided to start locking. Not even a trim. Split ends happen. It's nature. But you get much less when you stop combing

I usually dry this way: When I am done rinsing very well. I take sections of my hair and start at the root and make my way down to the tips squeezing the excess water out as if I were squeezing out a towel. I go around my head doing this to each section about 3-4 times (it takes a few minutes). Then I take a towel and do it to all of them at once just to absorb the rest of the superficial water. DO NOT RUB YOUR HEAD! I can't stress this enough. rubbing your head just take out knots that are trying to form.

At this point they'll pretty much be dry to the touch. What you have to worry about is the water that is inside.

I usually hit them with a blow drier for a few minutes at this point. Sometimes I drap a towel over my head and lean forward and use it as a backdrop. You want to move it around a lot.

Let it air dry at this point. If it's warm out let it dry in the sun. That's your best bet. When you go to bed, check one more time to see if there is any more dampness. Squeeze the tips a see if any water seeps out. If so, hit them with a drier for a few more minutes. If there's a lot of water, do the towel method again, then hit then with the drier again.

This method works better for locks that are a little older. At the very beginning, all you really need to do is squeeze the water out. Blow drying is fine, but don't do it directly on them. Angle it away and move it around. Just for a few minutes at a time.

As they grow they'll take longer to dry, but if you keep it up, you wont have to worry about mold or anything.

Sorry to be the one to break the news, but if you're expecting to wake up every morning and say to yourself that your hair looks great, you will bedisappointed. You're hair will look goofy for a few weeks to a few months. What you have to do is embrace that you like how funny they look. You need to except that that is all part of the process. Mine looked god awful for close to a year.

There's a lot of patience involved. Most people's look funny for a few weeks, and then they start to see a real progress. It's a slow start for the first stretch, but after that they seem to come together really quick.

Glad to hear you don't use a comb. But do you brush it with your fingers? You need to sop doing that. Get a good residue free shampoo like the ones from dreadlockshampoo.com, Dr. Bronners, or baking soda and apple cider vinegar.

Keep washing every 2-3 days. Let it dry completely between washes. And don't mess with your hair. It'll happen on it's own. You look like you've got perfect hair for it to happen really quickly too. All you need to do is separate it once a week to make sure they don't mat into 1 big lock, especiallyin the back. Let them section off on their own.

Good luck. Let us know how it's progressing

Combining Neglect/TnR?

Dreading Methods

yeah, I only know a few that are the original because of the placement. Some of the others are congoed with 5 or 6 other locks. I can't tell which of the tips was the original anymore

Combining Neglect/TnR?

Dreading Methods

embrace the goofyness. I TnRed and palm rolled my first 5 and left the rest to neglect. The ones I made were about 5 inches longer than the rest once they got going. It looked hilarious for a long time, but once they mature, you'll never be able to tell the difference

Retwisting Really Isn't Necessary

General Talk

it's also because we either see people with perfect hair, scraggly tangled hair, or locks. I guess the people with locks know that they don't happen over night, but it still doesn't come into mind that many of those people with tangled hair are probably going to end up with locks. It's just the beginning stages.

Hey Whats up Inter-web, I just began my new dread journey...The 1st of Jan 2012

Introduce Yourself

Eagle said it all. You can tie them back if you need to go somewhere fancy or have a picture take, but yeah, let them hang as much as possible.

They are looking good though. They look like they are starting to form their own sections pretty quickly. Good luck. It's a great ride

Question about apple cider vinegar + dreads

Dread Maintenance

I believe it's a matter of Ph levels. You can use white vinegar, but you have to change the amount of time you leave it in for. It's not a huge difference, but different enough
