motivation to start my dread journey

By soulshiiine, 2013-01-29

So, long story short, i've been wanting to dread my whole head for about a year and half. I've had 1-3 dreads in my hair for the most part during that time period (twist and rip). i've been planning on getting a friend to twist and rip all of my hair, but now i am leaning way more towards the natural method. I do have a more relaxed job and will be going to college next year so the timing seems pretty decent. i have fairly thick hair but its pretty straight with a little bit of wave. it tends to get oily pretty quickly if i don't wash my hair for about 3 days. i have been using all natural shampoo for about 2 years. so basically all i need to know is how to START. and when i do wash my hair, is there anything in particular i should or shouldn't do? thanks for your help!

happy dreading ~

cleaners

By Tyler Clayborn, 2013-01-28
Ive been dreading for about 6 days. I started with a two inch afro and one dqy i did the towel rub method then went straight into free form. My main concern isnt the wait , its cleaning. I would order some organic shampoos from these great website s ive heard of but, i dont have a credit card, and i dont feel like dealing with my parents criticism. So to make an already long story short. What r some home remedies that u use? What would u suggest for my my free form babies? Please go into detail . Ive heard about a few but im not quite sure what to do

My Most Precious Gift

By AJ2, 2013-01-27

A child was born into my heart
And never shall we be apart
Though life sometimes turns it
Separate ways
To nurture, to Love
And to Protect
To Cherish to honor
And to Respect
I watch her grow with loving eyes
That first step how I did despise
For soon the words were going to come
That shed be grown and all is done
No more Child, now Woman and Rose
My budding Angel as she grows
With all of lifes finality
The woman as she stands today
With no more obstacles in her way
She steps into the brillant light
And walks away into the night
To seek her destiny on distant
Shores and with her eyes
The sky explore
She says goodbye and walks away
To love, to laugh another day
I say a prayer that is my wish
As I give the world
My Most Precious Gift

Do my dreads need to be down and out in the open to mature?

By asdsad, 2013-01-27

I was trying the neglect method for about a month or two until I just caved in today and rip and twisted my hair haha. The thing is I have to keep my little dreadlings up in a bun or ponytail the majority of the time for about the next few months or so (school and work purposes) will this interfere with the maturing process or am I still a-ok with my little dreadlings' maturing cycle? I appreciate your help :)

New to Dreads

By UrbanHippie, 2013-01-25

I have been seeing dreads more and more lately and all it has been doing is making me want them more and more. I was finally able to meet up with my friend and she gave me 4 little dreads at the bottom of my hairline. I love them so much already! I only wanted to do partial dreads, so we weren't sure how many to start with. I wantseveral more already. I have an attachment to them. I think they are adorable and cannot wait for them to mature. I am going to toy with the idea of adding another row of dreads on top of those. We shall see. I just feel like I want them more noticeable. These 4 are able to be hidden quite easily, and I think they need to be noticed.

Funny thing, I did not tell my husband that I was doing this before I did it. He is in the navy and is deployed at the moment. We were texting a bit before he called and I told him I have 4 dreads...he just repeated that back to me with a question mark. He had no idea that I had been wanting dreads. I was unsure of how he would react. He didn't seem to really care either way, so that's good! I was afraid it was going to be a bigger deal. He is pretty amazing.

I look forward to my dread journey!

2 weeks

By marisue, 2013-01-25

well it will be two weeks tomorrow and im still having fun looking at the changes that my hair is making everyday. I feel like im taking care of a brand new baby! anyway my hair is very long all the way down my back so I was wondering if it takes longer to dread being long compared to having short hair. Also I had someone check myhair that had had dreads and he says that they are seperating real good so thats comforting, my question is I heard putting beads in your dreads are good for them if so is now the good time to do it and if so how do you put them in. Thank as soon as I figure out how to download pics I will send them thru.

Dread dandruff?

By Eric Andrikowich, 2013-01-23
I have really bad dandruff, should I be using more tea tree oil. I've noticed my scalp is slimey after I shower but I only use a little bit of dr Bronners tea tree like 10 drops.
