Do my dreads need to be down and out in the open to mature?

I was trying the neglect method for about a month or two until I just caved in today and rip and twisted my hair haha. The thing is I have to keep my little dreadlings up in a bun or ponytail the majority of the time for about the next few months or so (school and work purposes) will this interfere with the maturing process or am I still a-ok with my little dreadlings' maturing cycle? I appreciate your help :)

Keeping them up will slow the process down a little. And it will cause you to need to separate a bit more frequently. But you should be fine.

Just make sure that when you wash, you leave them down until they are fully dry. If that means you can only wash once a week, so be it. Putting them up when wet is a great way to invite mold/mildew.
