The First Steps, not working so well....

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

So I'm about two weeks into my journey and I've hit what I consider to be a pretty big road block. I'm no stranger to dreads, I've had them twice before granted both times were back combed and waxed. Which needless to say were annoying, troublesome, and uncomfortable. So I decided (after convincing my girlfriend) to go the natural route considering the lack of wax and combing I felt this would finally be the end game to my dreadlock woes. But now I've hit a wall.My hair is really thick and to make sure I can start locks I did a test run of a single TnR lock which worked well so I figured the process can start. So onward I went with no combing (Working well) and BS & ACV wash. This is where the wall is after my first wash with BS in cold water, I read cold water would stop itching and dandruff. The results were not so nice, my hair looked like I hadn't washed it in weeks. Really greasy and just dirty looking. So I tweaked a few things, went to warm water and less BS in my mixture. Results were the same with more itching, and a familiar smell came about. My hair smelled the same as when I had dreadlocks 7 years earlier. It was a wax smell. I went straight to the shower and used the bar soap I had been using before, my hair is still sectioning and isn't greasy. So what is going on? There's no way I think I could still have wax in my hair from almost a decade ago. Is there anyone here that could give me some insight into this problem? I like the idea of a natural wash with BS and ACV but if it's doing more harm than good then I have to shelve it. I'm not really interested in buying "Dreadlock" specific products because in my past encounters it's always just been a scam to buy something that you just don't "need". Again any insight would help out before I just abandon the path until my hair get's super long.

Fossilized Coral?

Dread Accessories

Has anyone besides myself thought about fossilized coral as beads for their dreads? I had a friend come down to my area to do a bit of rockhounding and thought the pieces or coral we found would be an awesome idea for his dreads and for jewelery. The coral in the picture is from the Triassic era is what I'm told. I plan on putting them in mine. Something kinda cool about a piece of a multi million year old history that I think is incredibly unique and interesting. I literally have tons of coral that I've collected some of it is quartzized and sparkly some is just normal.

crazy locticians

salon and loctician dreads recovery

The first time I attempted dreads was through a salon, where the "Loctitian" just braided my hair and sealed the tips with hot glue. He told me not to wash my hair until they completely lock up. I'm here to tell you I didn't wash my hair for 6 months and not one of the braids locked up at all. When I washed my hair finally the water was dark brown and pretty disgusting. If only this site existed when I was 15, on that first attempt it might have gone differently and I wouldn't be starting over.

Off topic ! eeeee!

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Read Alan Watts "The Taboo Against Knowing Yourself" , "The Wisdom of Insecurity" Pretty much anything by Alan Watts. The man changed my life, you can also search him on youtube for lectures and other things.

Or you may laugh at this but it's a seriously good book on being a more chill human being and learning to accept everything. "The Abide Guide : Living Like a Lebowski" That book has also changed my outlook on everything.

taking the loooong road.

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I honestly have a severe case of wanderlust. Thankfully with my job I only work two weeks a month so it gives me the time to satisfy that need to escape. Plus it lets me save to fund my complete off grid self sustaining existence dream. I figure in ten years when I'm 40 I'll have everything I need to do it. It's never too late to chase a dream and make it a reality.

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I've picked up and just left. At age 17 I just left everything and moved to Florida because I wanted to surf. Even now I'll take off for a week and just take the kayak out and follow a river to wherever and hitchhike back. My ultimate goal is to live on the small rivers and tributaries in my kayak and just cruise the country until I die. I rarely take a lot of money with me, just a good knife, a tarp, some 550 cord, a pot, a cup, and a severe case of wanderlust.

One day I'm sure I'll just fade in to the mist and disappear. Just read "The Road" by Jack London and you'll probably leave as soon as you finish.

damn the work place

dreads jobs employment issues

People tend to project insecurities when faced with their own ignorance. I know what you are dealing with and feeling. When I have to tell people I have autism I tend to get the same type of remarks, jokes, comments, or people start talking slow like I'm mentally disabled. Thankfully autism has allowed me to completely not understand social situations and 10/10 times when I feel awkward in a situation like you're dealing with, I just leave. I've been told it's rude but I honestly don't see how it could be.

veggie vegan omni ital? whats your diet and hows it relate to your dreadiness (if at all)

Dreads and Diets

I am an omnivore therefore I eat meat. I hunt my own meat and raise my own meat. I don't get into the whole veggie thing, I like greens and eat quite a bit of them but I can't do just veggies alone. I don't hunt simply for sport, I fill my freezer and feed myself and others with it. No religious reasons just prefer to know and stay close to where my food comes from.
