Biotin

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I wouldn't say they aren't working, but if you are taking more MCG than you need then what's left is being wasted. Thankfully there are no known reports of toxicity from Biotin.

Biotin

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

The recommended dose to treat deficiency for adults varies from 3,000 mcg per day for brittle fingernails up to 7,000 to 15,000 mcg per day for diabetics.

Seems to me it's just a placebo, even though I know a higher dose per day is supposed to help. But it's a water soluble vitamin so if you have too much it just ends up as waste with out being put to good use. There are tons of foods you can eat to increase Biotin levels

  1. Swiss Chard - This green plant is a top producer of biotin. It's also a great part of a healthy salad choice that will provide antioxidants and help balance a diet.
  2. Carrots - Carrots contain a supply of biotin, as well as beta-carotene, which helps with general eye health.
  3. Almonds, Walnuts and Other Nuts - A variety of nuts supply the body with biotin, and are a portable way to get proteins and other nutrition into a diet.
  4. Chicken Eggs - Eggs are a source of biotin, although it's important to note that eating a diet unusually high in egg whites can actually be a catalyst for a biotin deficiency. That's because a specific element in the egg whites binds to the element and prevents it from being distributed properly. It's important to always consider how eggs are added to a diet in order to prevent this kind of vitamin deficiency.
  5. Goat's Milk and Cow's Milk - In addition to calcium and other healthy items, milks are also a source of biotin for the body.
  6. Berries and Fruits - Some types of berries, including strawberries and raspberries, can get the body a significant amount of biotin. These fruits also provide antioxidants and health benefits, as part of a natural, whole food approach to eating. Experts recommend buying local and organic when possible.
  7. Halibut - In addition to being "brain food," this fish also contains large amounts of biotin. Think about adding it as an occasional entre.
  8. Vegetables - Other vegetables like onions, cucumbers and cauliflower all contain biotin, and are healthy ways to fit this vitamin into meals.

Why take a pill supplement when great food exists out there that have just as much.

Money or Dreads?

General Talk

Self loathing much? Humans aren't evil, they may do evil things but to pigeon hole a many for the actions of few is also incredibly narrow minded. If you see money as the most important thing then I feel bad for you. Sure money can be a catalyst for a comfortable life for some it isn't the answer for some. Being rich and being wealthy are different things. I've seen people with no money or possessions as happy as the richest fat cat. It's a matter of perception.

Money or Dreads?

General Talk

I luckily have had my job for the better part of a decade, I make more than enough to keep myself and my girlfriend living comfortably. But while I'm heavily tattooed ( down to both sets of knuckles.) and I'm incredibly anti social and what would be considered "rude" in normal society. (I'm autistic) I've come to the conclusion that I won't rise in my company any higher than I have so that's when I firmly decided that going with dreads is feasible considering that in my current station dreads wouldn't be the worse thing on my body. Nor will it bother me that I'm not going any higher in the company now that I know how they operate.

I felt the need to bring up a realistic point of view in this thread because there are a lot of young people out there who want to dread or be "counter culture" with out thinking of the whole picture or of the future. It may be cool during college and high school but those choices can have consequences when you head in to "Adult" high school. Which is honestly all it is

So I guess that I've given up on rising the corporate ladder I can finally start living for myself and how I want to. Just biding my time now to go completely off grid and never have to deal with or see another person again unless I feel like selling things at the farmers market. It could all be a blessing in disguise I'm beginning to think.

Money or Dreads?

General Talk

Now I did lose a job opportunity to my choice to dread.... It's nice and cute to believe that people will see your inner beauty off the start, but let's be real that isn't the truth. I'm a good guy, college educated (Masters Degree) quiet, polite, and respectful. But I was turned down for a job in a new test lab because of my tattoos and my choice to dread. I came in to my first meeting with the higher ups they looked me up and down and told me while I am over qualified and have more than enough experience I'm not what they are looking for. Now I dress well button up shirts, nice jeans or slacks, and I consider myself well groomed. But because of my tattoos and now my hair it's a big stereotype to fight off.

It is a sacrifice to have natural dreads and I can't put faith into anyone who says it isn't. But this is a lifestyle choice we all made willingly and have to accept the consequences that go along with it. I'd like to keep this idea that the world and the people who inhabit it are all accepting loving people, but they aren't. So it can be a serious decision if you exist in the professional world where appearance can make or break you.

In all honesty if dreads start to effect your business and effect you making money and keeping yourself afloat then I wouldn't do it. Yeah we can all sit here and talk about how you should be an individual and keep your journey and shine the rest of the rubes out there who scoff at it. But let's be realists, being unintentionally homeless sucks or having to go back to working for some one else sucks. Don't jepordize it if it comes to that.

I should finally formally introduce myself.

Introduce Yourself

Hey there my name is Ryan and I live in Tennessee. This isn't my first go around with dreads, but it is my first go around with natural dreads. I've been a wax hound for the first two times, now I'm just letting nature do what it does. My hair is on the short end of the spectrum about 4 inches but I still have knots so it isn't too early for me.I'm looking forward to meeting new people and making new friends. When I'm not working as a Lab Analyst I like to go fishing, hunting, riding my motorcycle, and above all else kayaking. I noticed a lot of vegetarians and vegans here. Just an FYI I eat everything I hunt and am a strict catch and release fisherman.

Silk or cotton pillowcase?

General Questions

I switched from silk to wool and there was visible progress in my knotting. A lot more loose hairs but those will come together in time.

The First Steps, not working so well....

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Probably true. I should be happy I didn't lock myself in the bathroom with a lice comb and knotty boy dread wax. To this day that smell makes me sick.

The First Steps, not working so well....

I used irish spring bar soap and it's better. But it weirded me out that that smell came back. I've had short hair and no wax anywhere near my hair for almost 8 years. It's not going to deter me I've decided to press on and just let it do what it's gonna do. But I'll keep the bar soap until I try that dreadlock shampoo. I just think I'm not a BS ACV person I guess.
