Thanks for the comment, it was helpful. The backcombing method just doesn't feel right to me... It's so abrasive! I think I'm just going to stop brushing my hair (I'm camping/climbing/living in my truck all summer so this is doable) and let it section itself, then add TnR to the natural sections. Someone suggested this and it makes the most sense to me.

Welcome, I hear there is snow in Texas, well I never! Welcome to your journey, you came to the right site to learn how to care for life long dreads.
Your twist & rip will loosen in time, let them, it is part of the process, never retwist. All you have to do now is easy, wash, separate any joining sections and sit back to enjoy the ride. Peace
