General Talk

My husbands where the same, we cut his off in the end. His hair is very fine it was a nightmare to dreadlock. i used to have fine hair but after years of abusive not so much.. though dreadlocking it was much easier lol

Now i just want beads.. and I want to make some beads! I'm going to look like a bloody Christmas tree but I dont care :D

My Turn!

General Talk

I originally joined to forum in my quest for research to Dread my husbands hair. A few months on and I've been really sold on the idea (sparkly dread beads had me sold for sure!!!)

Well I guess it was bound to happen and I now have dreads too!

It took about 2 days to do with my husband doing the back and me doing the front. My ends need work, I have limited time off so the main bulk was dreaded using the "twist and rip" technique and i can work on the ends myself as I go =)

Funnily enough that is not my natural colour.. I have spoke to others who say dying there dreads is not hard though bleaching my roots may be hard. My natural colour is very light and bleaches very quickly even though I would still normally just leave it in the recommended time. I plan to try on one small area (so I dont end up bald!) bleaching the roots and rinsing out as soon as the colours gone, hopefully this will lessen the damage and protect my dreads. If bleach is a no go i should still be able to use the colour it just wont be as vibrant.

How to wash dyed dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Did you ever find a shampoo that doesn't strip your hair colour? I am having the same problem. Not on my old colour but doing my roots. They bleached ok but the colour on top washes off in like one wash! =(

dreaded

Member Journals and Timelines

sooo I don't actually have dreads.. I don't think that will change but as usual looking at some sparkly beads for dreads and I was a bit like ..."Ooooh maybe" lol

The dreadlockee is my husband and I did his yesterday!

it was a very long day... finished at 5am (a normal bed time for is 3am so not as bad is it will sound to others lol)

I used to the "twist and rip" method which worked well for me I found it easy to do though harder when i was half way down thanks to husbands fine hair. So i had to improvise with some light back combing to separate the hairs before twisting etc..

Hopefully there are photos attached...

Dread day but need help with ends...

Help! Save My Dreads

..... it's not remotely sticky its like talc powder..without checking I wouldn't be surprised if that was all it is.

My practice dread I used nothing. For the rest i did use it and I found it helped alot. I didn't see it ascreatingknots more it opened all the hairs up making it easier to twist and rip".

I had a metal comb and there was the oddoccasionI backcombed an area (no more than once or twice) when it didn't seem to be progressing and that worked well too.

i did finish at 5am though lol will post pics now
