Seperation frustration

General Talk

Ok so I'm like a month and a half into my journey. It's going great other than my hair wants to be 4 3-4" sections in the back. It's mildly annoying. I keep beads on the worst 3 but they are all doing it. I didn't catch one in time and I had to work really hard to get it back to the 4 babies it started out as. Idk this really isn't a question, just a voicing of my irritation. Lol I guess it's a good thing, that it's being so beautifully active but omg it's a daily project at the moment. Wake up, brush teeth, seperate the three monsters. Ok enough complaining. Just had to share.

Not sure if this is right...

Dread Maintenance

Also if ur not using the oils it feels a bit stiffer. I noticed that in the month I didn't use them. I was getting acne and all sorts of fun stuff. The moment I started using the essential oils (lavender, rosemary & teatree) my hair felt less rigid after showering, and the dandruff & acne went away within 2 washes.

short baby dread updos

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I'm in the same boat. My hair is either too short or not knotted enough for dread styles and too knotted for non dread styles. My dressy style at the moment is rolling the sides Into loose pin curls and pinning them in that pigtail spot above and behind my ear. The back stays loose, and it's cute.

Never using shampoo again!

Dread Maintenance

It was an emergency situation. I ran out of bs, and only had the regular shampoo. Not letting that happen again. Though I am ordering a bottle & bar of the Dreadlocksshampoo.com shampoo for future emergencies & travel situations.

Never using shampoo again!

Dread Maintenance

Pureology antifade complex essential repair shampoo. It's what I was using before i started dreading & the bs washes, because I dye my hair alot, and it was 100% vegan and no sulfates. But it's in the garbage now lol.

Never using shampoo again!

Dread Maintenance

So it's been a little over a month, and I had my problems. Mainly not using the oils to rinse after my bs/acv rinses. Well I ran out of baking soda a few days ago and *gasp* had to use regular shampoo. My hair felt slightly sticky after my wash when it was still wet, and when dry my hair fluffed out and all my sections seemed to frizz together. My scalp itched all day, and the bumps that i always had behind my ears that had finally gone away came back with a vengeance. The worst was that I literally had clumps of my knots falling out. I was at work and found 3 seperate 2-4 strand knot clumps on my apron. So after work today I picked up another box and washed again with a 20min soak. My hair feels sooo much better. The sticky feeling is gone, the frizzies and itches are gone and my sections are mostly back. So yeah never using shampo again... Ever... I'll be greasy... I'll beg borrow and plead for $.58 if I have to. I never realized how much better my hair feels not using shampoo until yesterday.

oil & lotion

General Questions

You can always wrap your hair up for your massage. It's not good to keep them wrapped, but 45 min up is better than greasy hair.

The Three Month Dread

Introduce Yourself

I did have those "oh noes!" moments. I still have moments of meh, but the first week I had to resist everyday brushing them out because my hair is ber thin and my tnr dreads were not only super skinny, but sparse as well. But I've embraced the mess and I'm so glad a lot my my tnr dreads fell out and are "redoing" themselves. They look much better and my baldness is being covered. I still can't just get up and go because I #1 have a short top layer (3-4") and bangs that need patted into submission, but my eyebrows havnt fully grown back in, so I'm still shading them in. But I'm happier everyday with my hair. I love playing with it and feeling all my loops and bumps. Hey are all in the back so I don't really see any of them but I know they are there. I have even grown to love the mess. My mom and I went out to dinner a few days ago and she asked me if I was going to do anything to my hair because it looked wild and I said sure, shook my head out and smiled. She just sighed. It was funny.

BAKING SODA: more than just a great shampoo!

General Talk

Super clean clothes:Add 1/2 cup baking soda to each load of laundry, in conjunction with your normal detergent (or 1 cup with no detergent, I don't have many whites, but seems to work good for me)Stink free Kitty Litter:Sprinkle baking soda into your cat littler with each changing, absorbs the ammonia smell.Super clean sinks, counters, appliances and potty's.Moisten and sprinkle baking soda. Let sit 10-30 min. Scrub gently and rinse.Add 1 cup baking soda to your toilet bowl. Mix with toilet scrubber and run mixed water under the rim. Let sit 10-30 min. Scrub and flush for sparkling clean toilet.Dry shampoo:(for the non dreaded community)1 part baking soda2 parts cornstarchSprinkle into hair and let sit 5-10 min. Brush out well with soft bristled brush. Style as normal. The baking soda rids the hair of products, cornstarch absorbs oil.Fresh Carpets:Sprinkle baking soda on carpets, let sit 5-10 min. vacuum. These are just the ones I can think of, but there are tons of more uses.
