BAKING SODA: more than just a great shampoo!

General Talk

In a recent post someone asked about using baking soda for toothpaste. That and since starting my dread journey and before I've been getting more and more into using natural products instead of chemicals for my everyday life. Soo... here is what I use baking soda for.(with recipes)Baking soda toothpaste:3 tablespoons baking soda1 tablespoon salt (pref sea salt, any food grade salt will work)1 1/2 tablespoons veg. glycerinenatural food flavoring (peppermint essential oil, vanilla extract, etc.)Mix all ingrediants. Add enough drops of fod flavoring until it's palletable. If too thick, add drops of water until it loosens up to your desired consistancy. To use, you can dole it straight from your lidded container, or better yet, take an old toothpaste container, cut off the end and wash it out. To seal, use tape, binder clip, or a toothpaste key roller like me :)Baking soda deodorant:Equal parts baking soda and cornstarchmix and apply to throughly towel dried pits. The baking soda keeps you not stinky, and the cornstarch absorbs moisture. Now, if you have sensitive skin, you may develop a rash under your arms, if so switch to a different natural deodorant. If you use commercial deodorant you may experiance smell and wetness, this will lessen with time. As with washing your hair less often, your body is overcompensating for the harsh chemicals you are using. It took me a month but now I no longer feel uncomfortably moist and do not smell, and I only apply after showers, usually every other day.Glowing skin face and body scrub:Moisten hands with water, sprinkle enough baking soda on one hand to look powdery but not heavy. Rub hands together and it will feel gritty, but not be white. Rub this gently over arms, legs feet and face to slough off dead skin. Rinse, then rinse or blot with Apple Cider vinegar diluted 10parts water 1 part acv. Then moisturize with jojoba oil or your favorite moisturizer.Super clean clothes:Add 1/2 cup baking soda

My daughter wants dreads--Any advice?

Dreads in the Family

You should talk to GillysMum her daughter is a bit younger, but she is growing locks. She is absolutely adorable and I'm loving watching her journey.

Solace of the Solitary

General Talk

I'm the only "white girl" dreading in my area. But I've noticed that something in me is changing. I'm getting more and more positive comments (and more creepers hitting on me, which is both creepy and flattering). Someone even commented that I had a glow about me. I'm feeling good even when I look disheveled & broke out and not the best, because I'm growing more comfortable with myself. I'm noticing I'm seeing things in a more rosey glow. The old stressors are not mattering as much. Little knots are helping me notice all the other little "knots" in life :)

Dry flakey acne forehead and hairline, help!

General Questions

I'm not a pimply person, I get maybe 1 a month, but I'm so brokout it's ridiculous. I have made a lot of changes Lin the past month, switched from shampoo & conditioner to bs/acv (just got my oils today, I smell like a dream lol) went vegan from ovo-lacto veg, and not junk food vegan, but healthy. Stopped consuming chemical sweeteners, and as many chemical preservatives as possible. I'm still using my same moisturizer (mostly cause I havn't found anything else), but the bs cleans my face nicely, but i even switched back to my old facewash. Anyway, my face is broken out, large zits on my chin, LOTS of little ones on my forehead, between my eyebrows, nose, hairline, behind my ears and back of my neck. I look like a pubescent teen again... Thought I ended that 15 years ago. I've stopped playing with my new baby dreads cause I thought that might be it, but it's just gotten worse. And the areas are itchy and flakey. I wash my face once a day like normal, before I got to bed, to make sure I get the dirt of the day off, and wipe with rose water every morning. I have noticed that since doing the bs my skin is less oily, and instead of having to wash my hair daily I can skip to ever 2-3 days, could I be too dry, causing breakouts? Idk any advice? Cause I really don't want to have to go to a dermatologist, who is going to give me some hideous overly harsh acid crap.
