Not sure where to ask this question...

General Talk

May sound silly but can anyone tell me what this alert sound is when I'm on this website? I hear it, like a little beep sound and I can't figure out what it is, where it's coming from or how to turn it off? They only way to get rid of it is to close the site...or turn the volume off but don't want to do that if I'm listening to music.

hello everybody

Introduce Yourself

Welcome! I'm sort of new here too and although I started the bad way, a few weeks into it I found this site and I was blown away as you were :) I feel the same...now my dreads mean so much more than just a cool hairstyle. I think the natural process definitely adds more meaning to the whole progress and affects you a different and more profound way, than just getting them "done". I love this whole journey!

Hey Welcome! I just started mine a little over a month ago...can't wait to see your progress, you should post pictures of the natural process for us to see :) Dreads definitely require patience, which is a good thing for everyone! I wish you the best in your dready journey ;)

What do yall do for work??

General Talk

I'm a full time student so I have no problems...but I don't think I'd want a job that would require to change something about myself, especially my dreads...after so much time and work, I wouldn't cut them off.

Dread Maintenance

Thank you both for the advice. I have stopped using the needle and I have tons of loose hairs, so my fear is that my dreads will keep getting loose and eventually un-tangle. I only wash it once a week cause I'm afraid they won't dread if I wash them more than that...I don't know if I'm wrong about that. My scalp is producing A LOT of oil.

But I started using SE's shampoo recipe for this week so we'll see how it goes. Thanks much!

I'm a Newbie - Need Help

Dread Maintenance

Hi all.

I just came across this site today. I had my dreads crocheted a month ago and in looking through dread maintenance I stumbled upon this site which has brought a billion questions. So I'm hoping you all knowledgeable people can answer my questions if possible.

It's been a month. I wash once a week, my scalp is flaking. I have really dark hair and it looks bad, but I put with it. Will that ever go away? the flaking?

My hair is really curly, so I get a frizz cloud after washing my hair, if you guys say crocheting is bad, what can I do to tame it? It's really really bad, and I see people's photos of them complaining about their frizz, but mine is 100% worse. I haven't done any wax or anything sticky...just crocheting. Any help with taming the frizz?

They are skinny too...I thought it was because my hair is not thick, but maybe it's because of the crocheting? Do you guys think they'll eventually get thicker? I'm assuming that maybe since I have so much frizz and loose hairs that they will eventually stick together, but I don't see how without any help? I feel like if I don't do anything, they'll come off and frizz will always be there...floating around my head. Here's a pic so you can see my frizzy cloud...lol

Thanks in advance, looking forward to your advice.

Why Dreadlocks?

General Talk

I'm glad this question was asked cause I've enjoyed everyone's personal stories. So for me, I've loved dreads since my brother had them when I was 10. But he waxed them and didn't wash them and although I loved how they looked, I thought it was nasty...and it is! lol Always kept thinking about them and if they would look ok on me, never thought of a spiritual reason. For the past 8 years I've moved to a more natural, simple lifestyle...including diet and not buying any products for my body, face, etc. I learned to make my own of everything.

At the beginning of that process, I began experimenting without using shampoo, but it later turned out bad, cause I had a build up of oil. Then I did baking soda and it worked well. For some reason at that moment I felt the time was right and I got my dreads crocheted. I immediately was happy and felt closer to myself, don't know how else to explain that.

A month into the crocheted dreads I found this site and I dropped everything thanks to SE's advice...so now it's all natural and it means much more than just a hair style. I think it has been important for me to have gone through the crocheted thing, cause now I see the difference and now that has affected my dreads. Now, letting them go has been a really interesting experience and I can't wait to see what will happen a year from now. So even though there was no spiritual reasons from the beginning, I believe going natural has brought that aspect into this part of my life.
