Can't get rid of GUNK! Help :(

Dread Maintenance

Thank you everyone! I think I'm going to do the avc/bs rinse just in case and see how that goes. I have a slight gut feeling it may be mold, so just in case. I don't want that stuff in there.

And I don't wear any wool stuff in my head, no wax or products, and I'm a little hesitant on using conditioner as I feel this may add to the residue.

Thank you so much!!!

Can't get rid of GUNK! Help :(

Dread Maintenance

I don't think it's JUST lint. It's probably residue from soap (Dr. Bronner's and dread shampoos) and dirt and other things. I thought it was mold a long time ago but to me it doesn't smell like it, I don't think.

I tried cleaning it with tweezers and toothbrush but it's too hard cause it's sort of sticky, like residue consistency. Here are some pics and if you guys have any ideas of what I could do, thank you!

Can't get rid of GUNK! Help :(

Dread Maintenance

Hi all,

I've read the super clean dreads thread but I'm still having issues with gunk inside my dreads. My hair is brown and you can see the little white/grayish stuff (I suppose is lint and a combination of other things). I try to get it out but I can see it's all tangled through out the dreads.

Any advice/idea on how to get rid of this stuff besides brushing it out? I wouldn't really care except that sometimes it's very visible and a little embarrassing to see gross stuff in there.

Thank you!

D.

Mold! HELP!

Dread Maintenance

Thanks! I've never used wax or anything like it. I also don't use any fuzzy bed linens/pillowcases...I'm not sure what it could be. But thanks much for the input! I'll do the vinegar wash just in case...

Mold! HELP!

Dread Maintenance

Hi all,

I'm freaking out cause I found a little bit of mold (I'm almost sure it's mold) in two of my dreads...it's close to the root but not on it. Any help how I can remove it? It's just a bit but I don't want it to get worse.

For shampoo I use baking soda/water and for rinse I use the ACV plus jojoba oil + essential oils (tee tree and rosemary). I usually wash my hair about once per week. Please help :(

Problems with my dreads: Dry & Blending

Dread Maintenance

Thanks SE! I've been using jojoba with a few drops of essential oils and I felt that maybe that is causing the dryness?

Also, I feel that since my roots are pretty loose, and I have tons of loose hairs, they are getting easily knotted together, it's a challenge to keep them separated.

I also feel like my dreads are getting shorter :( is that normal? as they mature?

Problems with my dreads: Dry & Blending

Dread Maintenance

Do you mean like aloe like straight from the plant? or aloe bottled, like what you would use for sunburns? from my little experience with aloe, doesn't that make the hair more stiff rather than soft?

Problems with my dreads: Dry & Blending

Dread Maintenance

Hi all,

It's been 3 months since I started my dreads and I'm 90% happy with the process so far but I have a few concerns maybe someone can help me, give some advice or point me in the right direction.

Problem#1 - Dry hair. My ends are really dry, my hair is really frizzy (I have curly hair) and the ends are just fried. I use acv for rinse and bs mix for shampoo. Any help?

Problem#2 - Blending dreads. I have 4 dreads on the left side that are blending together at the roots and the roots have become one whole wide section and it is pretty flat then they divide into their individual ones. Other than the fact that it looks hideous, it feels terrible and it bothers me when I sleep. I don't want that to become a huge dread. I've tried pulling them apart but they are super tangled. I don't know what else to do. I thought about going to get some sort of maintenance and see if anyone can help me get my roots separated again, but I dont want any crocheting done. I live in the Bay Area...wondering if anyone can help me with this, what can I do myself? or if I can go somewhere and get some help?

Please help. I love my dreads but I want to keep separated roots well separated and I'm having a really hard time doing that if I leave them alone (natural process), without too much touching/maintenance.

thanks much.

-Donaji
