Natural locks/twist & rip/backcoming/WTF

Introduce Yourself

Man, i've been trying to dread for almost a year now....ofcourse the first 6 months were not really productive because my hair was too short....now im at 6 1/2 to 7 inches of hair...and im just getting so fed up. I'm so tired of people bothing me about my hair. I have ZERO DREADLOCKS...and my hair isn't really doing anything! I wash with baking soda and dr bronners, but no results....and i'm considering a NEW METHOD to get them because I need to MAKE SOME DAMN MONEY, and i wanna have dreads before i start working, rather then getting them while working, as that can set off something and get me fired.

I'M JUST SO SICK OF THIS, I HATE HOW I'M LIMITED BECAUSE I WANT TO DREAD, I NEED TO FIND WORK BUT THE SOCIETY HATES ON US, AND ITS HARD....I FEEL VERY ALONE AND VULNERABLE, WHEN IT COMES TO THE DECISION....

WHERE YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN YOUR GOALS/DREAMS/WANTS....OR WORK!!!

THAT'S SOME BULL MAN, I WANNA LIVE FREE AND BE ME....BUT I NEED TO MAKE MONEY,

I GUESS this post doesn't really have anything for you to reply to, as it is just a RANT...I just really really want to get dreads, and I don't wanna give up the NATURAL DREADLOCKING METHOD, because it is very important to me, and symbolic in alot of ways...it just hurts, to know that some jobs will reject me, and some people will hate on me because of a hairstyle, but haters are going to hate, and lovers will love. I just wish there was a faster way to get dreadlocks, I'M A PATIENT PERSON, BUT MAN I WOULD LIKE TO SEE AT LEAST A LITTLE PROGRESSION! MAYBE IM DOING SOMETHING WRONG....IDK

what can i do? i mean i do baking soda washes/dr bronner washes like every 3 days, i never EVER EVER run a comb through it, and i wear a beanie alot....i mean damn man :( it's just discouraging....

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE? OR JUST KIND WORDS OR ANYTHING? I NEED SOME SUPPORT BROTHERS AND SISTERS.

Dr Bronners, Good or Bad?!

Dread Products

Thanks SE I think i'm gunna switch over to baking soda, used it today and it seems way better. My ahir always ends up soft when using bronners.

it depends on your water

if you have hard water..not great

if you dont its awesome

as a soap its great but some areas have such hard water that no soap will work only detergents which are harsher by nature

so if u can use it use it if not well then your gonna have a hard time finding something good but the www.dreadlockshampoo.com ones will work

Dr Bronners, Good or Bad?!

Dread Products

ha I just asked a similar question earlier. If I were you, I would just order some of that shampoo from dreadlocksshampoo.com. I would myself, but I don't have a bank account anymore. How awesome would it be if the majority of stores actually sold shampoos specifically for dreads, but sadly, they don't. Not even herbal and natural stores sell them.

Dr Bronners, Good or Bad?!

Dread Products

So from what I'm hearing...Dr Bronners soap/shampoo leaves residues in your hair? Which would alternatively slow the dreading process right? I need to know because I don't wanna waste time with this if it's not going to be working, i could just baking soda wash. Gimme some feedback please, thanks for taking the time to read, and Godbless.

Be prepared to become as patient as a monk. Short hair takes longer to dread than longer hair, and I believe that hair grows somewhere around 1/2 inch per month. At 1 inch you're probably not going to see anything noticeable for a good hot minute. lol my hair doesn't even start to knot until it's about an inch away from the scalp. My hair was about 18 inches long when I started dreading and at 6 months into the dreading process I'm seeing them forming nicely, and shrinking. As I said it was 18 inches long when I started, it's about half that length now due to the natural shrinkage that occurs. (I think shrinkage is different for everyone, but I've lost half my length.) Scan around some of the forums and you'll see lots of helpful info from the members though. This is the best site I've found dealing with everything dread related, so take some of that time you got while waiting on the process and you'll learn tons of useful info.
