Did Dr. Bronner's Undo My One Month Neglect Progress?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I tasted it also (don't judge me lol) and it tasted yeasty so I thought it was the baking soda. It was gross and I'd rather not have that residue in my hair. Now that I washed my hair with Dr. Bronner's yesterday though all my separation is now gone :-(

Did Dr. Bronner's Undo My One Month Neglect Progress?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

One month into neglect (two days ago was my anniversary!! w00 h00!), I started noticing a white slimey residue on my scalp while using the Baking Soda and Apple Cider Vinegar wash.Recently, I had stopped scrubbing my scalp while in the shower since SE told me that scrubbing was unnecessary and may undo separation considering that my hair is so short (approx 4 inches). Once I started noticing the residue on my scalp, I posted a thread about what to do. I got many recommendations and went with Dr. Bronner's two days ago to clean my scalp of the baking soda residue.

Today, I used the Dr. Bronner's for the first time. I diluted the Dr. Bronner's 12:1 (1/4 cup of Dr. Bronner's in a gallon of distilled water). I poured the solution over my wet hair and scrubbed my scalp with my fingers really well to loosen up some of that old baking soda residue. I then rinsed with cold water really well.

When I got of the shower today, I allowed my hair to air dry (which I've been doing for the past month). When my hair was completely dry I noticed that all the sectioning that I had attained this past month is now gone!!!

I'm so disappointed! I'm feeling very frustrated that the progress I made this month is now gone. I'm not sure if Dr. Bronner's was the cause of the undoing of the sectioning or if it was the scrubbing. Any ideas on how to move forward with washing? Are these issues because my hair is so short or because I scrubbed or because I used Dr. Bronner's? :( -Marcus

Baking Soda White Mud Problem--Starting a New Shampoo?

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for the suggestion Heather, I'm glad that shampoo is working out for you. I just ordered Prell Shampoo because someone suggested it here. Question though, the Desert Essence Organics Lemon Tea Tree Shampoo contains lemon, which is a natural conditioner, I've read on here that lemon will not help the locking process, thoughts on that?

Baking Soda White Mud Problem--Starting a New Shampoo?

Dread Maintenance

Hello Everyone,

As some of you know, I'm one month into neglect. I've been doing a bs + acv wash every 2 days since the start and now I'm noticing the white mud problem (residue left). I'm on my way to Whole Foods now and was wondering what shampoo I should get to wash that residue out of my scalp and KEEP the sections that have been starting to form. I'm one month in with just sectioning so I want to make sure I don't undo my progress. Any quick thoughts of what shampoo to get when I'm there? Thanks! -Marcus

Also, I think I should start scrubbing my scalp with my fingers again. Ideas? -Marcus

Washing Question for Noobs in Neglect

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

So..as many of you know I'm almost a month into neglect. I haven't even got that many sections yet and definitely no knots yet. My question is, When washing with baking soda do I use my fingers to scrub my scalp? I'm wondering because some say to just pour the baking soda on and leave it for about 10 minutes. I leave the baking soda on my hair for ten minutes now, but while I do that I scrub my scalp with my fingers. I just want to make sure I'm not hindering or undoing any progress unnecessarily. Thanks! -Marcus

Introduce Yourself

KelloKiKi, I think its a great idea to make a video for the "Why I Have Dreadlocks" campaign! If you click on the Introduce Yourself forum you will notice that I made a thread about the campaign under Featured Discussions. Feel free to read that for guidance and examples and I will add your video to the thread after you've uploaded it to Youtube. Great Job! Spread the word and encourage others to make videos for the campaign! I really think its going to help spread awareness! :-) -Marcus

How do you wash hair when you first start to try growing them

Dreading Methods

SE, are you suggesting that we not scrub our scalps with the baking soda wash? Which is better? Maybe this will help me keep some sections I've been noticing..but nothing knotted yet. -Marcus

Neglect Method Ponderings

Dread Maintenance

I wonder why nature made it necessary to separate neglect (or freeform rather) locks. I mean, technically we don't have to separate neglect locks but then they would congo and be just one big lock. That would make washing our hair problematic since it would take days to dry and cause mold in our hair. I wonder how our hair was actually "meant" to be worn (if that concept even exists). Sorry for the rambling, I'm at work and bored lol. Wondering, what if we left our locks 100% neglected, what would our hair be like? Additionally, if it would cause mold and other problems, I wonder why its that way... No real way to answer this thread since its all hypothetical, I'm just bored! lol -Marcus <3
