There are a few that I shove beads up on them, to help keep them seperated they seem to dread just fine at the root, I mean there's less than 1/2 an inch that's not knotted, it could also be because the bead itself is not really tight so it doesn't stop the movement, I've also hemp wrapped a few and the growth seems a bit more "twisty" than the others but knotting still the same, I may just be lucky tho :P
I actually used some conditioner on my dreads for the first time a few weeks ago, I hadn't had a chance to be washing my hair the normal amount that I like, and I was at my grandmothers and she didn't have BS/ACV nor did I have my Dr B's with me so I used some Aloe Vesta stuff (they use it in nursing homes I do believe or in hospitals etc..) and I loved how they felt afterwards, I'm 9 months in so I figure it wouldn't hurt to do once a month perhaps! Glad you had good results!
I love the story of your journey! It seems you learned so much by so little and seem very happy with the end result and the results that are coming from your new ones, that's great!
I guess I'm guilty of using all terms, sometimes I just feel in a "loc" mood, other times I'm too lazy to type out "dreadlocks" and just uses "dreads" but whenever I'm being "educational" or "proper" I always use dreadlocks. Hmm I must think a bit when I use the words to see exactly when and in what context I use each and for what particular reason.
That is absolutely terrible, my thoughts and prayers are with you all!
I'm still finding traces of the beach in my locs after about 3 weeks, nothing crazy but a few small pebbles here and there, it's not irritating me or anything tho, hope yours gets better!
awesome story! Mine have really changed me as well, it's amazing how such a small step can change so much!
I'm kind of in the opposite position than you, I am 26 going on 27 (in sept) and I just started my dreads as part of my "mid life crisis" you can say. I've been unhappy with most of my life and it was part of a huge change in my life grasping onto happiness and change and finally allowing my hair to do what its always wanted to do, kind of resembling and remidning me to do what I've always wanted in life and to not give up regardless of the stages it takes to get to the end result (things loosening falling apart, crazy zig zags, good days bad days,) my hair is going through all of the stages to "mature" that I do in life. <3 and hugs and I really hate to sound like a broken record but any girl shallow enough to be a one night stand and not give you a chance because of your dreads or something is not woman enough to look inside of you, or even get to know you fully and that's not someone you need to be with! Good luck!!
