how often do you wash your locks?

Dread Maintenance

From all of the responses so far you can see that it is all a matter of the individual. And I told you that before. So I don't know why you need to hear everyone else's washing schedule before you share yours. It just seems pointless.

Dread Maintenance

Why are you waiting for others to post how many times they wash their hair before you say how often you do? I don't understand the point in that. Everyone is different when it comes this.

:(:( You seem angry. Why did you have to start a second set. What went wrong with the first set?

looking for dreads like these.

Dreading Methods

The dreadlocks journey is an individual one and there is no guarantee that your dreads are going to look like some photo you found. Just enjoy the journey and let them look like you.

It's not like picking out a photo from a mag and wanting to replicate a haircut at your local barber shop.

So..

Introduce Yourself

I think your dreads look good! I still get tons of suggestions and I have had mine for almost 14yrs in July.

I get people telling methat I need to twist my roots. And they have more scalp showing than I and their dreads look badly damaged. Mine are healthy, thick, and all over the place and I love them.

It can get annoying I agree but as time has gone by I have learned to just ignore because it takes way too much time andenergy to care about there ignorant comments.

How to Convince Parents to allow Dreads? Any Ideas?

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I would just askyour parentsto check out this website. And to read more about what natural dreadlocks are so that they know that all of the stereotypes do not apply to a lot of people who wear dreads. Ifyour parentsare able to seehow you care for them and how low maintenance they are and to see photos of others here then they'll know that there is nothing to be concerned about. Education is the key to understanding!

I hope this helps! :-]

cleanest hair ive ever seen

Dread Maintenance

Too cool! I love it when a stereotype is broken over and over. We as an American society seem to clinge to these stereotypes. I can remember this woman saying "My son wants to get dreadlocks. He doesn't like washing his hair so this would be the perfect hairstyle for him." I was so offended! I corrected her telling her that my son does wash his hair on a regular basis. And that I do too. She was so confused. I guess she never talked to a dread head who keeps their dreads clean.

When all of the stereotypes are broken what will these people do. Their reality will be too hard to live with.

Dread beads (ideas and suggestions!)

Dread Accessories

I make polymer clay beads. I use sculpey clay. I'd say just have fun with it. Let your creativity explode!

Here's some examples of the beads I make.

Here's An Uncomfortable Situation...

Dreads in the Family

One of his ex- friends treated him differently when he was going through the beginning phase. He just absolutely ignored him. It totally broke my heart to see this. But I reassuredhim that a real friend would accept him for who he is.

Now adults give him compliments all of the time.Usually saying he looks like Bob Marley. This one guy said that whenhe was in Jamaica he didn't see kids with dreads as long as his.

This one cashier at the grocery store we shop at asked me if he likes his dreads. And I said that it was his choice and I don't think he would wear them if he didn't like them. I wasn't trying to come off as a bitch but sometimes people don't know how to communicate with children so that talk to the parent like the child is not even there.

I just want him to grow up making his own decisions and I think I am here to be a guide to him and to offer to him a positive and nurturing environment so that he has lots of love for himself so that all the negativity just bounces right off of him.

Here's An Uncomfortable Situation...

Dreads in the Family

I have an 11 yr old boy who has had his dreads since he was 7. I can relate to you when you say your daughter's hair dreads fast. My son's dreads were made for dreading too. He decided to dread too on his own.I don't have any advice to add to what has already been given but that I told my son that he should cleanse his dreads at least once a week to keep them clean.

I got him his own dread soap and he is not really wanting to use the apple cider vinegar rinse but it is starting to change his mind a bit after telling him what it does for the health of his scalp and dreads.

Nice to hear stories I can relate to! :-]
