My Natural Dreads Timeline-Dreadlocks can form fast with neglect

Member Journals and Timelines

looking good!! i had clumps like that but they were causing so much stress and pulling i ended up undoing some of the clumps and putting beads on them so they don't pull up like that. one of mine was so big (over 3" wide) and it took days to dry. i ended up cutting it on either side and then wrapping it in hemp. my scalp is much happier now. just make sure your clumps dry before washing to avoid mold. i've been blow drying my hair lately just to be sure.

Dreads seem sticky after washing

Dread Maintenance

i got the stickiness too from dr. bronners. i stopped using it. i read online that most people that wash their hair with bs/acv or "no poo" usually pour the bs mixture on dry hair. the bs will bind to the oils on the hair and scalp. leave it on for about 5 minutes and then rinse. then do the acv rinse. i'm going to try this out myself sometime.

how bad will a beenie slowdown or hurt my natural dread process

Dread Maintenance

just be careful. there's a guy on youtube that wore a beanie all the time and it resulted in one massive beanie shaped dreadlocks. make sure you move your hair around in the hat and also take it off when you don't absolutely have to wear it.

should i increase my washing?

Dread Maintenance

i've been wearing my wool tam to bed every night and it been helping with the knotting. i found two new knots this morning. also doing sea salt sprays on my hair on the days in between washings is helping roughen up my hair a bit so its more prone to knotting and not so soft.

2 months photo, neglect

Dread Maintenance

i personally hate how i look in hats and thats why i only wear them around the house and to bed. they sure do help with the knotting though. you could try the beanie too and see if that helps.

Dread Maintenance

a year and a half?? wow, this kind of scares me since i'm having such a hard time knotting. what i've been doing lately is a pretty strong sea salt spray in between washings and i'm also wearing a wool tam to bed at night. my hair is definitely separating better. but still at 6 months of not brushing i could probably run my fingers through the back of my hair. is your hair really soft? definitely wear a tam when your outside if its that windy. its probably not doing you any good.

Going Natural! I have some Q's though!

Dreading Methods

i saw this girl on youtube and she basically separated her hair by twisting her sections together. she has super curly hair so they dreaded really fast. you might try that when your separating your mats. it might help encourage your hair to stay separated during the dreading process. you wouldnt have to twist them tight or anything. here's the link to one of her video in case your interested
. good luck with your natural journey:)

Garnier Pure Clean

Dread Products

someone asked about this last month. i took a pic of the ingredients list with my phone at the store. i didn't buy it because i wasn't sure. it has a lot of questionable stuff in it.
