is suave naturals daily clarifying some what ok to use?

General Talk

that's not a very good choice for dreadlocks. it has silicones in it which will result in major build up. if you don't want to go the bs/acv route than you could always try dish soap. there's a natural one called dishmate. i use it for my dishes but i bet it would work quite well for dreadlocks. gentle cleansing and essential oils. i buy it at sprouts for about $3.

Best wash for children and toddlers?

Dreads in the Family

when my kids were little i rarely shampooed their hair. i think a good massaging on the scalp with water is just fine. if you really want to use a shampoo then california baby makes some good ones. they even have a tea tree lavendar one that would be good for lice prevention. they're a bit expensive but pretty concentrated so a bottle should last a while. oh and you can buy them at target.

Desert Essence Organics Lemon Tea Tree Shampoo (Diluting?)

Introduce Yourself

great shampoo! just get yourself an empty shampoo bottle and fill it with water, squirt in a couple of squirts of shampoo, shake it up and apply to wet hair. focus on your scalp. rinse really well.

hard sticky stuff

Help! Save My Dreads

i looked up the shampoo and a lot of the ingredients are coating ingredients for static control and conditioning. i would do a bs deep clean with hot water and then an acv rinse. you might need to do it a few times.

caring for large dreadlocks

General Talk

i think the only issue would be washing. you want to be sure you can get your fingers under the roots of your locs to scrub your scalp. i've been battling with some very insistent congos in the making lately. i'm about to give in to a few of them because i'm just so sick of ripping them apart. i do have a few congos that started early on and they're about 2 inches across and they're actually my favorites. i did the neglect/freeform method so all of my dreads are different shapes and sizes. i think you'll be fine.

freshly combed hair!

General Questions

my hair was wavy but super soft when i started. i didn't get my first knots until around 5-6 months. i didn't start to get shrinkage until 23 months. it had a lot of time to grow long during that time. most of my hair is now at or above my shoulders. i think most of the shrinking is done. yours will probably knot up a lot quicker than mine though since you said it tangles easily. that was never a problem for me pre-dreads. i never even brushed my hair before. drying it out with bs washes was the trick. oh and sea salt sprays but i don't need to do that anymore:)

How long did it take to start knotting? I feel like my last set woulda tightened and matured so well if I hadn't messed up and crocheted and used wax :( That's why I'm starting over, neglect. I feel like my hair tangles and gets scraggly pretty fast lol, so I'm hoping it'll go kinda fast! But patience is the key!

freshly combed hair!

General Questions

my hair was about the same length as yours when i started and grew all the way to my butt before it really started shrinking. wash with bs in the beginning to encourage knotting.
