Newbieeee!

Introduce Yourself

Hey before I started I did what you are doing. Sometimes when I couldn't sleep I would just play with my hair. I made a couple of dreads with backcombing and they were very puffed out and frizzy. I would always brush them out though. Once I started my dreads I did mostly twist and rip and they are a lot slimmer but are knotted tighter.Which ever you choose, they will unravel a little before they start to lock properly but you could try a few and see which style you like better! http://www.dreadlockssite.com/page/twist-and-rip-method-dreading#axzz0qz7F4o9n Good luck!!!

Neglect Method Question. (For all those who have gone Neglect)

Dreading Methods

ACV rinse helps to keep your scalp/hair hydrated after the baking soda wash. It also helps some people with grease and oil but some others it makes them oilier.I have this 1 quart jug and I put about 1 tbsp of the acv and fill the rest with water.I don't know chemistry or anything, but people say it helps regulate the pH of your scalp after the wash. If you don't want to use acv or don't have any you can just rinse the baking soda really really well, or else your scalp could get dry and itchy.I use 2 cups of water, 1 tbsp of BS and 2-3 drops of tea tree oil(It's a really strong one and too much is not good either)then I do the jug with 1 tbsp of acvIt's what works for me .. though I'm still experimenting :) Aaron"TheLegend" said:
And what does the ACV rinse do once again?? Nd how to do you make it?

Neglect Method Question. (For all those who have gone Neglect)

Dreading Methods

haha there are dozens of ways to doing every one thing. You have to find what works best for you.herbs can be made into essential oils(I think) or you can dry them and make teas. Basically you have to get the essence of the plant out onto something you can use.I use thyme tea but if there is thyme oil, you can put a few drops in water and have probably the same thing. Essential oils are very concentrated. All of these things people talk about do tons of different things....SE I think we need a guide to all natural "products". Or is there already one here? Aaron"TheLegend" said:
Wait you're boiling the leaves, see that is what confuses me there are SOOOO many methods to do something for your hair, it's just nuts. Some people talk about sea salt spray bottle, now you're talking about a spray with thyme tea. You can do a peppermint spray too right? Or put it in a baking soda mix, either or works correct? Also I'll try that two cups of water on my head coming time to wash me hair anyways.

Neglect Method Question. (For all those who have gone Neglect)

Dreading Methods

lol! no prob! I have oily hair too so I've gotten advice here too. I used thyme tea(got some dry in the herb/spice section) and made tea. put a bunch in boiling water till it was really strong, drained and cooled it and sprayed my hair with that on days between washes. It helped out a lot but it smell to much like food to me.. so now I'm trying with some peppermint oil Aaron"TheLegend" said:
O ok I see yeah, hey SE how come you make so many typos O.o (if you don't mind me asking). Thanks for clearing that up Paula :) Looking forward to my first Tam :)))))

no actually I think he meant just 4. You wash every 3 days. So wash 1 day later than you think you should till you get to as long as you can stand it..every 3 days. then every 4 days. then 5. then 6.That's what he has told me before Aaron"TheLegend" said:
I sure hope so xD

So you're saying I shouldn't wash my hair for 24 days? I've been washing it every 3 days. Also I just purchased a Tam from the Home grown project(I think that's the name). Yes I rinse my hair with cold water, I just asked my mom for the rosemary, thyme, and peppermint(I got an "ok" so I guess that's a yes lol).

How can I encourage congos?

Dreading Methods

ooh ok..I actually have some that are shiny and some that are not...So I gueass I'll try with the ones that aren't shiny :) Sister Rags said:
No, it doesn't. I've used embroidery floss (cotton or rayon or silk) and it's commonly used for hair wraps. Because embroidery floss has a slick texture, though, it doesn't help the dreads congo quite as efficiently as hemp does. Hemp is porous and has a hair-like texture.

so does it have to be hemp string? I have a LOT of cotton string..I use them to make bracelets but I have more than I know what to do with.

What do you think?
