washing your dreds

Dread Maintenance

Nope I don't. I have caucasian like hair and that would just make my hair oily(something I'm battling anyways) and slippery which would not allow it to lock. plus, they are only 3 weeks old. The cocoa butter should only be used if you dreads are (a) mature and (b) very dry.For now all you need is the baking soda wash and a very weak acv rinse. If your hair gets oily you can skip the acv but you must rinse very well after the baking soda.If your hair starts getting itchy without the acv, you can try adding some essential oils. cassie gabriel said:

Well you have to keep in mind that SE's dreadlocks are fully mature(near 20 years) and are long enough to reach the floor. So you could do with a weak acv rinse cassie gabriel said:
for this part of your recipe in your discussion i got confused about...

"i follow this up with a strong vinagar rince ( usualy id do a weak apple cidar vinagar, but last month been doing a far stronger white vinagar, explained in a few)
for a weak apc id add just a splash, maybe a capfull or 2 to the same gallon size pitcher for a strong version id use a cup or more of white vinagar, to this i add a big ol glob of cocoa butter (extra conditioning) and the same oils used in the wash, this i only leave soak a few minutes..2-5..then rince well"

is the stronger version better for your dreds? and for the conditioning part, wouldnt that make the dreds come out quicker? and then finally, you mix the white vinigar and cocoa butter with all the things u mixed together in the first rinse?

You could choose whichever you prefer. The sudsy soad, or the soak. Or you could chose to do one and every once in a while do the other. But those are the safest options. The only non residue soap I know of(That's not marketed specifically to dreadheads) is Dr Bronners. You could choose the liquid(Must Dilute) or the bar.

well I(and lots others here) use a home made "shampoo" of mostly baking soda. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/super-clean-dreads-safe-... I made my own recipe cus this is way too much for my hair..but it's basically the same.. just less2-3 cups of water1-1.5 tbsp baking soda2-3 drops of tea tree oil(if you've got it it's really good for your scalp!)I por this on my wet hair, let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse.then the apple cider vinegar rinse1tbsp for a big jug full of wateror 1 tsp for the 2-3 cupsleave for 3-5 mins then rinse. No scrubbing so it wont unravel babies too much :)and no schedule needed. Just wash when they feel dirty . 1-3 times a week ideally.

how much money has this site saved you and how much would it have saved u if u found it sooner?

Dread Products

hey just saying..I don't think the dread butta could really be useful for anything. I don't think anyone really knows the ingredients in it so it's probably not dread safe.. The shampoo could be used. It's one of the few things DHHQ has that doesn't ruin dreads Chewin Change said:

The comb, pick, and dread butta can be useful later on but the shampoo, instructional, and wax was a waste really.

well...first I had been looking at the DHHQ dread kit($37.00)also was gonna buy a metal comb because JC convinced me that the near identical flea comb I have would have the bristles too far apart($4.99)head honcho($5.00)loose hair tool(have you guys seen this thing in action?? O.O)($7.00)locking accelerator(salt water) ($7.00!!)Also had been looking at salons and thankfully couldn't find any near me($100+).I had actually been saving up money to buy that stupid kit when I found this site. I had never even heard of twist and rip and I envisioned natural(neglect) dreading to be a dirty nasty process...Now I see it all completely the opposite :)Oh but I did go out and buy some crochet hooks. I tried to use them but I couldn't figure it out...and I am so glad!!!
