Any tips?

Introduce Yourself

Are you getting sisterlocs? or just smaller traditional locs? My best friend does extensions and she uses Afro kinky hair to make the extensions. However, to be honest...I never quite understood growing locs and adding extensions. I mean you go natural to avoid adding anything on. I do understand you needing or wanting a more professional groomed maintained look to your locs. Maybe you should go back and do a little more research.

patented dreadlocks sisterlocks nappylocks weirdsistas and more

Dreading Methods

They are not trying to patent the way they are interlocking...but the tools they use. The woman who started Nappylocks was actually a sisterlock technician...or she took the class - then designed her tool slightly different from the tool that sisterlock techs use. That is what the fight is about. Not about the hair.

Scratching your scalp

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Yeah that is pretty much the info that I read. However, doesn't a good scratching just feel good? LOL I mean after sweating from working out seems like my scalp has itching powder on it in certain places...like dead center of my head. Massaging just does not seem to get it. LOL Sister Rags said:
I read an article when I was about 12 in some magazine about how to properly wash and touch your scalp. That article impressed me. I learned to always use the "pads" of your fingertips, never your fingernails, to massage, wash, or scratch your scalp.

Scratching your scalp

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I hear if you scratch your scalp with your nails that you in fact pull small hairs away from the root of your loc. I hear massaging the scalp is much better plus it helps stimulate the scalp.Well I have been working out...a lot. Doing a boot camp in fact. And I sweat a lot. I wash my hair like 3 or 4 times a week due to the sweat. But nothing feels as good as a good old scalp scratching. LOLAny remedies for the itch?

dreads and stereotypes

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Depends on where you are. I am in Birmingham, AL - and I work in the Legal Field at a very large law firm. As long as you look professional and neat - there is no problem. Thus the reason I opted for sisterlocs vs. natural locs. Its a compromise on both sides of the equation. I get the freedom of expression I desire and they get a person who can represent them in a fashion they feel confident and comfortable with at court. I think a lot of the stereotypes only continue because closed mind or small minded folks keep thinking that way.
