So... my dreds are gone.

General Talk

Thanks for the support guys, no doubt they will be back some day, but next time better! My hair is ok, thinner than it used to be but i expected that from the amount of hair i lost combing out, over all it still looks smooth, sleek and presentable which I'm surprised about.

So... my dreds are gone.

General Talk

Hey.

After a while of thinking "bloody things, I should just get rid of them" I have.

The process was slow and painful. About 12 hours of two people (me and my mum) slowly conditioning and combing. It was strange and very sad, I feel like I've let myself down or lost a friend, but I dont regret it (or at least at the moment!).

My reasons were a mixture of personal and practical.

Personal:

I felt I was constantly judged for having dreds.

I felt I used them as a crutch for my personality (as I'm generally a shy person)

I hated that dreadlocks had got too commonplace in my home (not uni) area.

I got fed up of answering the same dumb questions!

Practical:

I hated my sectioning.

I hated fuzzies.

I'd like to point out these were my opinions about myself and my own dreds, no one elses! What I will miss is mostly the conversations that they would gather from genuinely interesting people, being "that girl at uni with dreadlocks", the beautiful and different colours each one seemed to have. My dreads were beautiful.

But indviduality and personality are not defined by your hair, they are the experiences and biology you carry with you every day. I hope one day the majority of people will be enlightened about dreadlocks.

"Yes, it was my real hair"

"Yes I did wash it"

"You get them out with a lot of difficulty or not at all"

And when I'm older and wiser I will have more beautiful dreadlocks, unfortunately the time isn't now.

My first ignorant comment...

Dread Maintenance

Huh.I cant believe someone thought it was ok to be that blatently rude to your face! And for your co-worker to back them up, what a git!I've noticed that by having dreads you become a short of 'public figure' people think it's fine to grab your hair and stuff. I get a lot of people compliment my hair, which is obviously nice, but people do ask bizarre questions, one of the most popular is definately about your washing habits. But pass on your knowledge and they will learn :)You cant win every time, but you can sometimes at least

How often and how do u wash your head ?

Dread Maintenance

Hahahahaaa. It's well funny reading all this coz I washed my dreads last... 6 weeks ago I think! It doesn't get itchy, greasy or smelly so i dont see the point. I was my fringe when it looks greasy. But i openly tell people to smell my dreads, they say they dont smell of anything and it's breaking stereotypes.

Question about bleaching dreads

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Hahaha, mine are that colour for the same reason pretty much! Personally i kinda like the gingerness. Yeah, use a stonger dye or try a few more times i guess.

Bald spots?! Or is it just me?!

Dread Maintenance

I wouldn't have said it looks anything unusual, it's just the way your dreads fall, and because yours are thick maybe it's just a bit more noticable. I dont know about waiting it out with dreads, whether that'd work or not i have no clue but it's easy enough to make fake ones like you suggested, and i managed to get loads of fake hair (which looks real enough and is more ethical) for 5, so that'd be a quick fix

UNblunt ends!!!!!!!

Dreading Methods

I got crocheted with blunt ends then thought i'd like to go wispy, what I did was knot some fake hair in to the ends using a crochet hook, palm rolled it, done.I'm happy with my crochet dreads, to me they are showing my creativity via my hair, so I'd like to not have any abuse for that ta.
