From braids to dreads?

Dreading Methods

I agree with what everyone else already said. Sounds like that salon screwed you hard. There is no reason why you shouldnt wash your hair just because they braided it, even if started with braids (which I have heard some people do) you need to wash your hair in order for it to tangle and knot around the braids. I could understand if they wanted you to wait a short while because of a chemical service like perming or dying, but just braided? They are stupid. And they coated them with wax. UGhDefinately de wax.Go back and ask for your $$ but I doubt highly they will give it back to you since they will probably not see anything wrong with what they did. I have heard salon horror stories and the salons usually put up a fight and wont do anything. They are your dreads, and its your head. If you see reason to speed up the process a little and have more neat looking dreads from the start and go to a salon, then I suggest you do some strong research and choose a good loctition who knows what they are doing.Ask questions on their methods, and stuff. Look for happy and unhappy customers who are still walking around with their dreads from the salons your are investigating.Otherwise if you can live with the messyness then I suggested T&R and good ol neglect after degunking the wax in your hair. Its your head though. Good Luck

A random thought about palm rolling

Dread Maintenance

I was going to just say I agree with Stephanie.. I am not like a dread expert or anything, but I really dont put any energy into even thinking about palm rolling unless after showering because I honestly dont see what good it does, and the only reason I do it after shower is because I have horrible hair humiditiy and like to try to prevent any major flat stuff too. I dont do it otherwise, and when I do it- its very brief like my whole head takes 5 minutes LOL.. So far I havent noticed much of anything going on except brief tidying. And I agree with SE: some herbs are great for medicinal and hair purposes. My wash routine has gone all herbal ;)

Lock Count

General Talk

I cant remember my last count and im being lazy tonigth so Im going to guess somewhere around 50ish..I do think I have about 2 new ones that will form in time around my nape. As I see some puffy balls of hair at the hairline at my neck. And I have some rebelling hairs on top that arent crazy about joining the other dreads, and since im not maintaining really at all (gasp- LOL) I see them probably forming their own clans before too long.

Dread-flap in combination with biscuit

Dread Maintenance

Can you begin to decifer at all which dreads are where at the roots? Like would you be able to cut the dreads apart? Or separate the congo into 6 smaller congos? I dont have any experience with this, but just tossing this out there.. What do you think SE?

Q About Dr. B's Soap and Hair Dye

Dread Products

Chevelle Trant said:
My hairs dyed and i use dr bronners all the time. Just make sure you use a good dye is all,, and stay away from the peppermint bronners cuz that will strip you.
Oooooo I bet thats my problem then, I use peppermint bronners.. Thats why my dirtyblondred/light brown (an attempt to get all my hair as close to my natural hair color as possible) dye from June is fading back to the blond highlights underneath.

Q About Dr. B's Soap and Hair Dye

Dread Products

I too have had Dr. Bronners strip colour out of hair.. For colour treated hair most would recommend a colour safe shampoo/cleanser. However I pretty much bet that almost all of those have some sort of colour sealer (AKA- residue & conditioners to us dread heads) and therefore would be bad.FTR: I dont think any of us guys look or should be considered "old".. (hug) I kind of like gray hair.. Maybe its just me, I look at grey hair -as life patches ya know (like girl scout patches) .. The grey is earned ;)
