Cleanliness - Dead Skin

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I was just getting on to ask this same question. The paste turns into, like a very thin helmet of dead skin once it's dry, I have been changing up my shampoo ingredients lately, less BS, a bit more oil and tea, I'm sure I just need to figure out what works best with my scalp and then allow time for it to adjust.

How do I keep my dreads my desired length?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

When I cut a few of mine with my first set, cuz I was tired of my 'bangs' being between my hands and everything I was trying to pick up, I took a razor blade and moved it up and down (quickly) into the side of each dread, I also moved down as I was applying pressure to cut it at an angle. It really kinda mangled up the tips, but after a few days they had locked up enough that it just looked natural.

Washing dreads

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I've used all kinds of vinegar, as long as it's diluted I'm sure it's just fine.

I'm thinking about dreading my hair!

Introduce Yourself

Yeah, I'd go natural or Twist and Rip. Don't do twists like they like to do in salons to people with your hair type, the twists are generally too tight and cause a lot of damage to the roots, it can even result in loosing a few dreads because the roots have broken from being pulled and twisted so tightly. You've got great hair for dreads! And it looks like it's just long enough to start dreading now. So good luck man, I'm looking forward to seeing your dreads once they start to develop. And keep asking questions, it's what we're here for.

when do i know my dread are matrue

Introduce Yourself

I consider mine mature when they've tightened to the point that they won't tighten anymore. Could be a year or two, could be 8 or 9 months, every ones head is different.

Oily Roots and smelly dreads

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Generally when you boil vegetation it looses all it's nutritional value, thus you have to conclude that the good shit from the plant ends up in the water, so I wouldn't say you have to dry them first.I just throw em in a pot of boiling water and wait a few minutes till the water is dark, the darker the water, the stronger the tea. I make mine with thyme and rosemary then add about 1 drop of tea tree oil per cup of tea.

Having an off-week, losing confidence

You really are making fine progress, you're going to have very dense, very straight dreads once they mature, but you've got that 'being blond' thing going for you too, and blond dreads are sooo the coolest!

For your hair type I think you've got some good progress going, I know it's been 6 months, but everyone's journey will vary in time. Get yourself a wool sweater to put over your pillow at night, it'll really help and I bet you notice more development with in a week or two.As far as fuzzies go, the longer your hair grow, the less they'll stick out, it'll all come together, just try not to stress yourself, every one of us has been there and done that, it's hard, but practice patience and self control and you'll feel very fulfilled when you're done.

Growing More & More Impatient

Dreading Methods

LOL That's adorable! Try a wool tam during the day, if you can stand the heat. I used a sweater for my pillow case, but cut off the arms and mad them into a tam with a draw string. Just a simple design, and nothing great looking, but it's functional. That way you can get the benefit of the wool all over your head without needing to be in bed, and in a multitude of different positions as well. Gotta keep those babies comfy and fed!And btw, I love your new thumbnail pic! Fuggin gorgeous!!
