That's so GAY!!!

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I lack the plug-in on my computer to play the video, but I understand what this conversation is about.I FUCKING HATE how gay men are portrayed in the media, because every gay television character is the pinnacle of flamboyancy, and for most gay teens, who are trying to figure out who they are, have only these super flamboyant role models to look to. Men who are overly extravagant like that aggravate me beyond words. I don't disapprove of the life style, but there's no reason to slam it in other peoples faces and expect them to except it immediately. It's over the top and strange to most, which is off putting, but then these men are offended when people speak hate against them.In addition, it forms a mental image in the minds of hetero people that all gays must be this way, just like all black men steel, as lesbians where flannel, and all women belong in the kitchen.Honestly, it's just a phrase, how many people say "well God damn" or "that mother fucker" with out thinking about the meaning of their words? Are they literally asking God to damn someone/thing, or literally accusing someone of having sex with their mother? I just see phrases like this as an auto response for certain feelings or thoughts, just like 'ouch' or 'mmm' or 'WOAH'.Just a thought.

Fuck Me for Being Considerate

General Talk

So, for those of you who don't know this, I live with the family of a high school buddy. It's myself, my buddy, his brother, and their parents. Now, the mother, of this house hold, and I volunteer for an exotics and wildlife rehab group so we also house 18 parrots, 4 dogs, 4 cats, a 20lb tortoise, a duck, and a blind possum.Well, I've spent the entire weekend moving my buddies girlfriend (and baby momma) out of her house and into ours (she was kicked out by her grandmother who she was living with.)With her, came her 2 boys and her and my buddys daughter. So this morning we were visited by Child Protective Services, called by some woman that's never even been in our house. Ultimately it resulted in us moving the girlfriend back into her old house (after busting our asses to move her out) with her kids, and being forced to place 14 of our birds and all our other animals into new homes. We also have to have an inspection done by the Health Department tomorrow morning, and the kids must go to the doctor in the morning to ensure they are healthy (per order of CPS).It's really fucked up that this is happening, and I've been crying all day, and just wanted to vent to friends. I'm so angry with the situation but there's nothing that can be done now, and I really disagree with people being able to call in things like this anonymously, I feel I have a right to face my accuser, and all I want to know is why? What have we done? Allowing a woman with 3 children to move in because she's no where else to go is a good thing, isn't it?Well, I guess just fuck me for being considerate.

Reasons for choosing dreadlocks?

General Talk

Eh, school days are old news for most of us, and I find peace in knowing that most of the kids that beat me up and picked on me will never be financially stable, emotionally stable, truly capable of living with themselves, and I hope one or two specifics end up with the clap!

Thanks, it's just easier to be happy when you're out to please yourself rather than everyone else all the time. The bitch of it is, I please myself by pleasing other lol.

Reasons for choosing dreadlocks?

General Talk

I always caught a lot of shit from people when I went to school; called names, tripped on the stairs, beaten up in the locker rooms, my locker and books vandalized. I was so scared to go to school because I knew no matter how hard I tried to fit in and make myself look normal and act like everyone else that it wouldn't work and each day would be worse than the day before. I got so caught up in trying to be a sheep, that I really lost who I was when I was a kid and happy. Dreads have just help me embrace myself, all of myself, because they're not perfect, but I'm not either, and yet they're still so beautiful.

rubber bands

General Questions

Beads are great, bands are not. They deteriorate into this slimy, black, tar that's impossible to get out of dreads. Remove them ASAP before they really start to fuck up your hair!!If you must use something, go out and buy 100% cotton thread. Your dreads can absorb that without causing any damage to your hair.

Dread Maintenance

Wraps might be a viable option as well.

Dread Maintenance

You may try sleeping on a satin pillow case, or ware a satin cap to sleep, the hair will slide over it, instead of being snagged and moved around like a cotton or wool pillow case would do. Tho, that probably isn't going to cure it all, just being smooshed between your head and whatever your sleeping on will cause your roots to combine some. But I can see satin really helping out a bit.

Will I mess everything up?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Oh I'm sure Pan, dreads are like sponges, and from personal experience I know how difficult it can be to color dreads alone. And I've always kinda wondered why old ladies had blue or purple hair, and now I know!!! But then I call most women over the age of 80 'Blue Hairs', lol, I'm sure I'm going to hell!!

I don't know about all of what Panterra said, but I'd take her word for it, being a professional stylist and all.As far as your dreads coming undone when you use it, it may happen, it depends how mature your dreads are right now. I know that they aren't that old, but maturity is something that only you can judge. If they're still a bit loose and fluffy I'd wait for a while. Once they're mature there is little you can do to mess them up (washing wise) but baby and adolescent dreads don't seem to fair well when put thru too much, such as coloring and conditioners.A good test to know if your dreads are capable of standing up to something like coloring or using conditioner is if, when you wash, you can really get into them and dig and rub and squeeze without worry of messing them up. Really, if you are still being delicate with your dreads when you wash, then I would hold off on this conditioner for a bit longer.
