Hello All; Glad I Found This Place

Introduce Yourself

I've added you as a friend Shawn, but I'll post on here in the meantime. I just have a few questions for you: Sorry if it gets long, I just need to clear some things up so I can be of help.

How long ago do you think it was that you first noticed the hair loss?

How often are you wearing a tam?

Are your dreads heavy and do you notice them pulling at your scalp from the weight?

Since you've stopped twisting completely, have you noticed the hair toward the base of your dreads get a little loser by your scalp?

Are you pulling them back tightly?

Have you used any essential oils before?

I think those are the questions that I have as of now.

Knowing just what I know now though, I would recommend getting the Dreadlock Wax Remover from here: http://shop.dreadlockshampoo.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4&products_id=14 if you can. You can still use the dawn along with it, but you may notice it will help more with the wax removal.

Use the Baking Soda rinse on your scalp carefully, to remove all residue (if any). Hair can not regrow if the scalp is not in optimum condition and free of residues and buildup.

Blood flow is the main importance (next to clean scalp). Because people with dreadlocks can't really massage their scalps to get the blood flow going, I recommend using a comb with metal tangs. Not too sharp, so you don't scrapes though. Just something you can easily get into the loose base of your dreads and rub your scalp with. That will support increased blood flow.

I can help further, once I know your answers. So whenever you get time just let me know. I will do my best to help you!

buildup on my scalp (not from product use)

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I would try the shampoo and hold off on putting the bs mixture on your scalp. You could do the shampoo on your scalp then the bs on your dreads. Or just try the shampoo for a while and slowly add the bs back into your routine, and see if that helps.

Forgot to add those shampoo's are great to try also. You can still do the BS rinse. Just try it every 2 or 3 washes and try the shampoo the rest of the time.

buildup on my scalp (not from product use)

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I agree with SE. You can never wash your hair too much. Wash your hair after every workout. What happens when our scalp sweats is it secretes oil along with sweat (which is usually pretty salty). If you don't wash that away from your scalp it is going to build up and turn white. The oil with mix with the salt making a not so nice residue, and salt with harden when left to dry, so it becomes kind of crusty. It will coat your scalp and can cause major buildup, blocking your scalp from breathing. Don't be scared that you are washing too often. Your locks love being clean and will often times dreads better when they are. If drying is one of the reasons you are apprehensive about washing, make sure you workout on a day when you don't have much going on after, or you at least have time to dry with a blow dryer (if necessary). Try to workout in the morning so your dreads can dry throughout the day. If you workout at night, just don't go to bed with wet locks. Over time that will cause molding. I hope this was helpful. :)

Project Walk

General Talk

In May of 2007 a very dear friend and former roommate of mine was in a horrible accident. She almost lost her life, but after several tough months of recovery and many surgeries later she continues to heal. She suffered a Spinal Cord Injury to her C4 and C5 causing her to be confined to a wheelchair. Erica has 2 beautiful boys, one of which was in the accident with her (he was unharmed). In all the years that I've known her I've never heard her complain or show any sign of pity for herself. She is one of the strongest people that I have been blessed to know in my life.

Erica wants to become more mobile for not only herself, but for her boys. She has many goals for the future one of them being to attend Project Walk in Atlanta GA, this summer. I am sharing this site that she has created with you all just get her story out. If you can help out by donating that would be amazing, but is not necessary. Just by knowing her story and possibly sharing the page where you can, you would be helping greatly. :)

This is the link to her page:

Dread dead hair or what?

Dread Maintenance

Unfortunately, anything you do to your hair will cause damage. The wind, air pollution, brushing, combing really anything will cause some form of damage. Just letting it dread naturally will cause the least amount of damage to it though.

Do beads have any negative affects on your dreads?

Dread Accessories

If you don't move the beads around on the dreads (like move them up and down), the bead will most likely become permanent as the dread thickens. I already have one that is pretty hard to move. I need to take it off because I think that part is weak.

Hairstylists' and dreads...

salon and loctician dreads recovery

that sounds like an awesome goal to have!! I wish you all the luck with it :) You would definitely want to open it in an area where dreads are a popular style. Where I'm from they are not very common.

I am a certified hair stylist too, and I understand what you and soaring eagle is saying.

After I get my education on natural hair and organic hair care, I want to open up a shop, not necessary salon, but an organic shop.

I want to offer natural dreading hair care, to educate the right way to dread hair, or what kind of products to use. I also want to take classes on glass beads, clay beads, and metal working to create accessories for dreads(or accessories in general). And sell my art and support local artists by hanging up their art at my shop :)

I just gotta figure where I should go to open up my shop :)
