Yeah, let them do as they please. My hair was SO frizzy at first, but it went away mostly by 1.5 months. With time it's a lot easier to stop thinking about what you can do to make them progress faster or look better, but they do that on their own. I found using a sea salt water spray and hour or so before my showers did help them lock a little faster and made me feel like I was helping without doing anything that would make me bald later. My hubby hates leg and armpit hair. I do too, though. I don't shave often, but it makes me feel really good when I do. It's whatever makes you comfortable and happy, I think. Having dreads, we're going to get a lot more looks of confusion anyways, so if they stare at the hairy legs too, who cares. We're making the world a less boring place by being different and doing what feels natural to us.

I used coconut oil on my scalp for dandruff at about a month in... bad idea. My roots all loosened up and had to backtrack a bit. I had bad dandruff at first, but the cold rinses helped, and my magic ingredient has been rosemary oil. I put a few drops in water in a small spray bottle, and if I notice dandruff or itching, I spray that directly on my scalp. It works like a charm every time.

My short hair up-do solution

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

It's a simple thing, but I found this up-do style to be a revelation. I have a few dreads on the sides that are about 2-3 inches long, so I haven't been able to do the normal up-dos most people suggest for short hair since those shorties won't stay in place. I found this style to be the answer to my problem on the days I don't feel like being as bold. I rolled each side up and met in the back with a little clasp clip. Then I used 2 more to clip the sides, and that was it.

I have curly hair and most of them did that as the zig zigs started to tighten. Most of them are already looking normal. I put a few beads on the ends for a while, and that helped to tame them too.

Just wandering from those who've been dreading for longer than myself (3 months) what peoples' experiences have been with growth... How long was it before your hair stopped shrinking and such before you noticed it growing longer. I've been looking through the forums and online, but I haven't found enough examples to satisfy my curiosity.

Thankfully I'm married and done with dating, but I can say that my husband, though he looks like a straight-laced business type, LOVES my dreads. I think guys, and especially the right guy, will be drawn to you because of your freedom of expression and because you are happy with yourself and the way you look. We're naturally drawn to the opposite sex when they like themselves and feel confident. Plus, you're more likely to have guys drawn to you that you have more in common with.
