Sard Wonder Soap????

General Questions

Thanks Brandi. I really need a cheaper option. The DLS bars are really the best for sure, but when broke, what do I do? I am looking into shipping by sea at the moment for the DLS, I might be able to stretch the budget after January.

I have been using Pantene clarifying shampoo. It says residue free and is supposed to be for "natural" hair. So far I really like it and have had no issues or build up. I'm almost through a whole bottle and shampoo every 2-3 days. It was like $5. I also found another company that sells dread shampoo bars. You got 3 for $9. They were all natural too. If you want I'll look up the web page for you.

Sard Wonder Soap????

General Questions

People have been growing life long dreads without dread soap for centuries. I spoke with a fella the other day, he must had had dread for twenty plus years, he had never heard of dread shampoo, gave me a bit of perspective. My old dreads smelled like old carpet, and thats not why I cut them off. Have I become too precious?

Sard Wonder Soap????

General Questions

There is a lush store in Adelaide, I rang them today, the bars are $14, and are smaller than DLS. I guess dread shampoo is expensive. Home made would be best. I can live with a bit of residue, so maybe some other shampoo bar will have to do, and just do a deep clean with Sard once a year, I dunno.

General Questions

Yeah, I know, haha. Twas just a thought. Theres gotta be something thats nice and doesn't cost so much. I love DLS but it cost me $70 to get it to me, that using the shipping to its full, so I get 4 bars for that.

Sard Wonder Soap????

General Questions

Just trying to find a cheap option, I'm broke and nearly out of DLS. I know I could use BS/ACV and probably will.

i saw this soap recently in the laundry aisle. I imagine it will be a little harsh, but says on the packet, great in hard water, so perhaps I could use a little bit. Does anyone know much about these cleaning agents?

Eucalyptus Globulus Oil Fragrance, cleaning aid
Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate Cleaning agent

Why no touch?

Dread Maintenance

I agree, everyone has the right to do as they wish, but some folks don't have any experience with it, so I'd like to save them the trouble, because if some folks think, " I must be sooo careful", thats alot of trouble to go through, and if they could avoid it they would. So, I'm saying give up the careful approach if you want to, because you can. I have grown total neglect dreads and I've started dreads, after the initial session on the backcombing I have treated them the same, they feel the same to me, the inner feeling is there, I recognise it, it is spiritual, started or neglected, some folks can't see that, its the inner approach rather than the outer. Its the letting go, is my opinion. and that is what Jayke is asking about, I think.

Dread Maintenance

I agree. I think if the knots that form are strong enough they will stay, and if touching, drying with a towel or scrubbing my scalp/hair will cause them to fall out, then they will probably fall out anyway. Dreads are not a fragile thing, I have never been careful of baby dreads or anything like that, my little boy breaks and pulls hair out all the time, his fingers get caught and so on. I dont care about "loose hair". I know that most people don't understand my hair, that does not bother me, I understand it, it is what it is, that is all there is to it. I say, wash your hair, don't be too gentle, I squeeze the water out, I squeeze the water out again with the towel, I don't separate like mad, dreads is a long term thing. I treat them well, I am just not into being so careful that every little knot is saved. Wash properly and the dreads will come quick enough, they come no matter what you do anyway.

Hair drying time :D

General Talk

I have a mixture of backcombed and natural, some are quite fat. Usually takes most of the day, sometimes still damp when I go to bed, but are always dry in the morning. If out in the sun, they dont take long, maybe 2-4 hours.

hey everybody! Let's discuss...shampoo!!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I don't know. I have not used this method, but I think I will try it. I personally would not be too concerned even if it did. The more I think about it, I don't think it would, especially if it was strained as described. I am going to the Indian grocer in a couple of days, I think I will try it over the weekend.
