Shampoo/ "conditioner"

Dread Maintenance

Thanks for the info SE. I have actually used that that shampoo in the past and I personally didn't like it. My scalp was still unbearably itchy and it left behind residue. Perhaps I was using too much...? I really just want to make my own to be totally honest. What are the last names of the girls you recommended? I would like to get in touch with them personally and pick their brains a lil bit.

Shampoo/ "conditioner"

Dread Maintenance

Hey there,I have been using the bs/acv rinse for quite some time now and I absolutely love it! But I am a hairstylist and currently working on creating my own natural beauty product line. I will be making many things ranging from makeup to lotion to various types of shampoos and soaps. My question is, is goats milk safe for dreads? (I have had my dread for 2 years). But I am wanting to find a shampoo that is safe for colored treated hair that still helps with an itchy scalp, and the bs/acv seems to strip the color right from my hair. I know goats milk can work wonders on dry skin and I want to experiment, but I don't want any residue left behind in my locks, will this happen?

Hello,I am a hairstylist and have dreads myself. I am trying to break the myths behind dreadlocking and educate people. May I please use your photos and information in this post to share with clients who are interested in having dreadlocks or who are currently products in their hair?

Dreads turning flat????

General Questions

I have some dreadlocks, primarily in the back by the nape of my neck that have gone flat, they're no longer rounded like the rest of my dreads. Why is that? And is there anything I can do to encourage them back to a more rounded shape?

Itchy scalp still. Please help!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I have had my dreads for a little over a year and a half. I have not tried any essential oils on my scalp directly except for jojoba oil which does help. So I will definitely give the spray bottle idea a shot. I will also mix it with distilled water because that too helps balance out your skins pH. I have the dreadlock shampoo bars that everyone recommends on here, and I love them because they smell wonderful and my hair always feels extra dready after it, but it makes my scalp itch even more profusely. I feel like I rinse my hair well enough while in the shower. Could it be that I'm not?

Itchy scalp still. Please help!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I have posted before asking for help with my itchy scalp and while it has definitely improved it isn't completely healed. I do the bs/acv wash aprx every 4 days. In my bs rinse I add peppermint, rosemary, lavender, jojoba and vitamin e. I let that sot for about 10 min. In my acv rinse I add a little bit more jojoba and let that sit for aprx 3 min. About every 4th day my whole head will begin to bother me so I kno to wash it, but after its washed the backside of my head behind my ears really itches still. I have played around with bs/acv ratios but I still don't think I have it figured out. What should I do?! I've heard of people making a paste out of the baking soda and putting it on their trouble spots. Is that recommended? PLEASE HELP! I'm beyond over the itchiness. It's the only downfall to my dreads, and it's proving to be an imminent one. I don't want to have to get rid of them because I'm always uncomfortable.

Itchiness making me miserable! Help me pls!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Thanks for the advice. In response to SE I do not have lice. My bf and I have thoroughly checked my hair. I wash my hair aprx every 3 days. I am using the shampoo bars from Dreadlockshampoo.com. I use the tea tree and rosemary one on my scalp n thn the dragons blood on my locks just cuz I love the way it smells. It seems to be worst in the evening of the day I washed my hair. I make sure to lower the temp of the water when it's on my scalp in the shower n I rinse with ice cold water right before I get out. That's pretty much my routine. I will order some more oils and see how that does. I feel as if that's my missing link. Any reccomendations on how I go about using/applying them?? Also, are rose absolute and rosemary different? I'm assuming rosemary is like the herb n rose absolute is like the flower, but I just wanna make sure. Thanks again for all your help. :)

Itchiness making me miserable! Help me pls!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Hey there, I have been so miserable lately. I just moved recently n my new climate is terribly dry and I'm used to high humidity. My itchy scalp has been keeping me up at night and it feels like chicken pox on my head. I dont understand why my acalp is so dry now that i have dreads. I grew up living in a dry climate for 20 years and never experienced anything like this before my dreadlocks. I've had my dreads for about a year n a half now, can u pls help me understand why I'm so itchy with them now. I've really been reconsidering having them but i think that's just the lack of sleep talking.I'm waiting on some essential oils to arrive in the mail: tea tree, lavender, neroli, rose absolute, & jojoba. I think I need a heavier base oil for my scalp but I'm not sure. I need something fast! I can't handle my lack of sleep anymore. :( Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Fuzz in my dreads

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I have bright white blonde hair and I believe I have fuzzies stuck in my dreads. I am pretty positive its not mold. my dreads are very thin. I have over 100, and I pulled some out of 2 of my dreads, Both my fiance and I have looked through my hair, and it doesnt smell like mold at all, It looks like the fuzzies from the blanket on my bed actually. Now, my question is, how do i get this out? I did crochet my hair for a very long time but i stopped a couple of months ago, The ends have really began to loosen n become squiggly but the roots are still ver stiff and that is where the lint is. I dont really wanna go picking thru my dreads just becauseI would be afraid of weakening them even more. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

Cutting my hair is seeming unavoidable now.. i need advice.

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Dreads are awesome. And they should be able to stay that way. If you think having dreads will truly cause your world to turn upside down, then maybe it is something to consider. But can you argue your case? If so, dont underestimate yourself. Stand up for yourself. Present some facts. Make them think about it as opposed to just kicking you out. However, dont let it get in the way of your goals either,in my opinion at least. Maybe you could try brushing them out. That would take some effort and definately not feel good, but then you would have the option of putting them back in sooner if you wanted to. I dont know much about brushing them out but ive heard a few success stories, so itmay be worth looking into. And wether or not you decide to keep them, just remember, that while we do become more and more attached to our dreads as time goes on, in the big scheme of things, its just hair.It reallysucks youre going through this. But if you do have to leave, just move to Washington or Colorado where its legal.;)

Good Luck!!!!!!
