Washing with beads?

Dread Accessories

I made my first polymer clay bead yesterday. It's the Sculpey brand from Michaels. Im curious if I can wash my normally with it in. I use the shampoo from dreadlockshampoo.com but i just wanna make sure the bead isn't water soluble. It would be gross if it began to break down from the water in my hair. I did not use any sort of varnish or finishing coat. Also, are there any tips that would be helpful when making beads? I had a total blast and wanna keep it up!

EEEEK! HELP ME! Crochet damage really beginning to make me nervous!!!

Help! Save My Dreads

I'm getting really nervous about the damage I caused to my dreads in the beginning. I stopped crocheting back in October but my dreads are thin and stiff and are proving annoying at the moment. A big part of that could be because my bangs are at an awkward length since I'm growing them out but I'm still noticing things that worry me. I'm really afraid that a couple of them may want to fall off!!! The squiggles and loops are coming back and I'm starting to get a lil fuzzy again which I like. It looks so much better that way now. But I can still see the separation in the back from where my rubber bands were the first two months of my dreads. I've met people who have been crocheting for 6+ years and their dreads don't seem as damaged as mine. I think I may just need some reassurance and some pointers on how to keep my dreads happy and healthy. Help please!

Shampoo to use while backpacking...

General Questions

Hello all :)My fianc and I are in the process of getting ready to spend a few years backpacking through SE Asia. Any recommendations on what I should use for shampoo? Right now I use the dreadlockssite.com shampoo (p.s. dragons blood scent is awesome!) and I also do the bs/acv rinse every once in awhile. Now I can't really expect to have my shampoo sent to me in the mail, and I don't wanna carry anything heavy or in excess. Everything has to fit in the pack on my back while we're there. Any reccomendations??

Please help my disobediant children!!! D:

Help! Save My Dreads

I understand your frustration. It took me a very long time to feel comfortable in my dreads b/c a lot of people didn't like them. So, without understanding the damage I was doing at the time, I crocheted my dreads to make them "neat" for special occasions. I regret it. Let them be. You will never regret not working on them. Besides, you look beautiful so you have nothing to worry about.

New to dreading

Introduce Yourself

Hey :) I had bead in extensions in my hair when it started to dread. There was no getting around leaving them in my hair. I've had my hair dreaded for about 15 months now n I have appreciated the length the extensions have had to offer. There was no awkward lengths when trying to pull it back, which I felt was key for me. I hate the hair that always falls out when u want it up. But...now that my dreads have settled n matured a bit, I do find myself wishing it was just my natural hair, but I do still like the length it has to offer. It just kind of depends. How important is the length to u?

Bumps n squiggles

General Questions

Why are the random bumps and squiggles in your hair so important when dreading? I was misinformed in the beginning of my dread process and was told to tuck those away, but I have a friend who has recently started her dreads and I couldn't offer her an explanation when she asked about them.

HELP!!! How to repair from DreadHeadHQ?!

crochet and dread tools recovery

Thanks :) I bought some jojoba oil the other day but I had a random thought while using it...So since I've been crocheting for so long, could softening them cause them to break off in certain spots? I know that that is a risk I am running as it is anyways, but I am wondering if by softening them I will only make the weak points in the dreads more weak?

HELP!!! How to repair from DreadHeadHQ?!

crochet and dread tools recovery

So, I have recently turned to the neglect method from crocheting. I now recognize the damage I was doing. my dreads never fattened up and I can see the sectioning in the back from where I had the rubber bands in the first 2 months. I have combined quite a few dreads with hair wraps seeing as I had about 130 dreads. But, what can I do to soften my dreads? The roots are now loose and comfortable and I think they're coming along splendidly. They're even combining on their own now. But can I soften my actual dreadlocks without causing more damage to them? I really don't like seeing the sections in the back. Its ok if its just going to have to look like that until they grow out, its a part of the journey, but it would be awesome if they didn't. I will try and attach some pics so you can see them, but last time i attempted that, it didn't work. so fingers crossed.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds, :)

Namaste
