Your experience with family/significant other not liking dreads?

Introduce Yourself

Wow Mons that is a lot of change lol. You must have an awesome husband! That much change would take a lot of getting used to. My wife is a nordstrom/make up kinda girl and honestly it would be hard if she changed as much as you lol. I think the fact we are so different is what makes us work. Along with still being each others best friend.

Oh yeah rose that is similar for sure. Me and my wife got married on the beach 2 years ago and I had long hair that I really wanted to dread but instead I cut short cause I was worried about her family being upset. One of my biggest regrets!

Mons that's reassuring for me about your husband. Thanks! My wife has put up with a lot. Crazy tattoos, dreads, crazy clothes lol. I guess opposites do attract. She grew up an upper class blonde from the suburbs.

Yeah for most people it's understanding the process. My wife is cool with the process. She just doesn't find dreads that attractive. I just hope they grow on her. Wouldn't want to mess up "grown up" time lol.

That's funny you say that cause I thought my grandma would absolutely hate them, but she's one of the few who said they look nice. Wierd.

Just curious if any of you experienced this and if it changed as you had dreads longer? I've had mine 7 weeks now and my wife doesn't like them. She's awesome in that she supports me and is happy that they make me happy. However as a good husband I feel a little guilty for doing something she doesn't like. Im hoping she grows to like them. Any of you have an experience like this?

How many beads is too many?

Dread Accessories

I have a bead that is just a little to big for my dread. What is the safest way to secure it? I was thinking of using needle and thread and sticking it through the body of the dread and through the bead hole to secure it. Would this be really damaging?

Dread Products

I'm having a huge dandruff problem too. Always have, just worse now with dreads. Doesn't help having dark hair. I wonder if using a dandruff shampoo like once or twice a month would be that bad for your dreads?

The Definition of Negativity.

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I read that too and it made me really upset for awhile. I spent a whole night thinking of the best way to reply to this rubbish. Then I realized that's prob the exact response that they wanted. Why was I letting this completely negative crap ruin my day. Since then I have just laughed off all the negatives people have said or written about "white people" with dreads. I'm much happier for it.

dreads jobs employment issues

I'm a male nurse working at a skilled unit in the country. It's funny how people can judge your appearance negatively at first but when they get to know you they seem to love your differences. I'm half Asian with tattoos and dreads and work with old people who for some im one of the first Asian people they've seen since the wars lol. I love them all though!
