Questions about roots, ties wraps

Introduce Yourself

Thanks, I hadn't even realized you could search videos! That should be helpful :)

That's a good point... silly, but, I didn't even think about that (affecting the overall strength in the future). Alright, from today forward...just gonna take a breath and wait it out. :) thanks for the support!

Questions about roots, ties wraps

Introduce Yourself

Hello dreadies! I've got a couple questions for ya! :)

My dreads are about 5 months old now and they're locking up pretty quickly! As my hair grows, though, there is a lot of loose hair on and around the roots. I started by backcombing, so the new roots (that weren't yet grown in at the time i started) are much looser than the rest of the dreads. It seems like the loose hairs aren't really locking onto my dreads...they're just sticking out all over the place :P

In an attempt to help them tighten, I've put hair ties around the roots of my dreads. This sometimes starts to hurt, though, so I'll take them out. I am constantly playing a game of ping pong... taking out ties and replacing them. Most times when I take the ties out, I end up ripping out hairs that have formed around the ties...causing even more loose hairs. I'm wondering if this is really doing anything to help...I'm guessing probably not.

I'm wondering if anyone does anything to tighten their roots... ? Some people have suggested wrapping my dreads but I don't really know how to go about doing that.

So...how do you guys go about wrapping your dreads, if at all? Are there any other options I should be aware of? :)

Any input helps and is appreciated! Thanks! :)

Friend thinks I should cut my hair, says they smell 'unpleasant'

Help! Save My Dreads

I definitely think the soap you're using is the cause. I was using dr bronner's for a while, and was also dealing with some funky scents. i switched to the nag champa dreadlock shampoo, which smells 1000 times better. highly recommend it.

The Path of Truth

General Talk

i guess this could be considered my second journey, though my first was quite short. i had dreads for just a few weeks when i was younger before my mom made me brush them out.

I love what you said "the path of truth for me is a dreadlocked man." i totally relate to that feeling...my hair has always seemed to want to dread, i'm happy that i am finally letting it run the natural course. This same idea is also how i explained a tattoo, saying that i am simply expressing myself as an individual in a part of society...haha. but seriously, very cool. happy that you're refacing your true self :)

often othwrs try to plan our lives for us they think thry know whats best fir us and oush us into following in their footsteps

sometimes with force ..

in high schools its often the kid with the most potentujkial thats closest to suicide becayse they are pushed so hard to suceeed and make the family happy they have no time to do what makes them happy

then all it takes is 1 less then perfect grade and ..they are a comoete failurw..not happy themselves..not making their family happy..and over the edge they go

u cant control what others want from yiu

you cant libve uo to their expectations alone

the 1 thing you can..and must do..is find happiess within you

then when yiu are happy share your happiness with others

they may not be happy with the choices you made but if they care they will be happy that you are happy

Life Issues Facing Dreads

i've always thought that making other people happy would always make me happy. i'm starting to see the distinction, though...between pleasing others and what's right for me. though i'd like it to be so, they might not always coexist

Everyone has an opinion of what should be...or how it should be. Remove "how" or "should" and just be.

Today, I start taking my own advice.
