loose hair

Introduce Yourself

Dread beads helps seperate alot. i also wrap random ones for like for a month, take it off and then wrap a different one that needs a little help. i use rainbow colored hemp rope.:0) it breathes so water doesnt stay trapped in there.

tnr/neglect method. coming undone. nopoo

Help! Save My Dreads

hello!

i am 4 months into my tnr. I have very straight hair. i used the tnr because i knew my hair would take FOREVER to dread on its own. Even still i had to re do the back of my head twice and even still ill randomly find chunks of hair that have come undone. I have decided not to let i stress me out. when i find a chunk i just tnr it a little and leave it be. if it locks great if not oh well. I did use rubber bands on my ends. as for the back i left them in for a long time. some of them still have the rubber bands in. lots and lots of patience is all i can tell you. i wash my hair every 3-4 days with suave clarifying shampoo. never done the sea salt spray myself but i do think going to the beach in thebeginningis helpful.

well good luck with your dreadies and remember lots of patience and love make beautiful and healthy dreads :o)

The "Weed Smoking Hippy" Stereotype

General Talk

there is a movie called club dread its a corny scary movie. i believe the main character is a dread headed hippy who smokes pot and stuff. something to check out. pineapple express. biodome. true romance, great flick. those were the only ones i could think of at the moment.

I give up...

Member Journals and Timelines

I completely agree with australe. i was sad to think you were giving up after only 5 months but was happy to find out your "giving up" was really just letting go. its not an easy thing to do. letting go of control of something is scary but also liberating . good luck on your journey you seem to be learning alot. :0)

1 year Dread-versary

Member Journals and Timelines

Love how you mention "letting go of your vanity and embracing the mess." that is really the truth of it and one of my favorite things about my dread. i stopped worrying about perfection. it was something that i used to stress alot when it came to my hair. since i got dread that weight and worry has disappeared. i love the mess on my head. all dread need is patience and love. :0)

How thin is too thin?

General Questions

I know this is an old post but just thought I'd comment on your question how thin is too thin? obviously its all up to the person. in my case i thought mine were too thick. My front dreads are thicker and the slowly get a little thinner as they go back towards my neck ( i had to redo, twist and rip, the back twice). I have very straight hair and knotting has been very difficult. I have had mine for almost two months and i have added random slim dreads from hair that has unwrapped from other dreads. I started with a lil over 60 dreads and last time i counted i was over 70 and I am pretty sure if I counted now the number would be different as well. The fluctuation is fun :o)
