My 2 1/2year all natural update

Introduce Yourself

Been dreading my hair going in to my 3rd year at the moment. My hair was roughly a few inches long when I started the neglect process. My hair is past my shoulders now and is quite a hand full at times. I have roughly 15-20 real dreads all over my head. Each is different than the last. I'm posting now though to ask for some help/insight on maintaining my mane of hair. It has recently got to about my pecs and is becoming hard to manage or maintain. I'm pulling or snagging my hair more when I sleep and my beanies can no longer contain it all so I'm constantly trying to put it up. I don't tie my hair at all but I will roll it up like a bun and put a beanie on. Im looking for some advice with tying it up or of any one knows where I can find bigger beanies actually for dreads please let me know.

Scalp help.

Help! Save My Dreads

I have been naturally dreading for over a month now and my hair is doing fine but I have really oily hair. it runs in the family my mom had ridiculously long hair and she says she has always had to use conditioners bcuz if not she gets dandruff. I was using nothing but cold water and it worked for a bit but dandruff struck and I tried bs/acv and it worked kinda but now my scalp is itchy and the dandruff is back two days later. A friend told me that bcuz my hair is sooo oily naturally i need to use something different or a different recipe. Please help. the dandruff is almost bad enough i want to shave my head.

this is the recipe i saw and used

tsp or BS per cup of water (7 cups)

10 drops tee tree/20 rosemary( i dont have rosemary)

soak for 5-10 then rinse out with cold water

1-2 caps of acv 2 min soak then rinse with cold water.

after i used it my hair was amazing but two days later i was scratching like a mad man!!

also I tend to wear beanies a lot they are usually pretty big bcuz i have big hair but idk if this could be a factor in dandruff. Side note I go to raves quite frequently and nothing makes my hair feel better then when it is drenched in sweat and i shower with cold water the locks lock soooo tight.

back combing help

Help! Save My Dreads

didnt want to post again somewhere else for the same topic. I have been letting natural dread and Holy MOLY this little bit of natural dreading has shown more results than backcombing and wax ever did in months. My hair is sectioning off small pieces of hair all over (hard to notice at a glance still). There are atleast ten pieces of hair that are dreading super well. I have just started having problems with dandruff though Im not real sure what to do. I haven't put anything in my hair except for ice cold water because I had tried bs/acv wash and other shampoos but they usually made it worse or nothing at all. Im already used to do nothing to my hair so a simple solution would be amazing. THanks.

back combing help

Help! Save My Dreads

Well the back combing pretty much came undone on most of them except for the back of my head so taking them apart wont be hard. I was just contemplating it bcuz back combing did mad damage to my scalp so I wanted to start fresh.

back combing help

Help! Save My Dreads

I started my second set a little over a week ago (no wax just a comb). I didnt have my first set very long bcuz of wax but this time i wanna go the very best route and the more i read i see the natural is the best route. a friend suggested to me that i should undo the back combing and let it go natural. They havent really set yet so they can easily be taken apart but idk if i should. is it worth taking them out and letting them start over again??

Week 1 questions

Dread Maintenance

I did my dreads just 3 days ago and they are still kinda poofed out from back combing. I have started to notice a few stray hairs (mainly on the top near the big dreads ) and a lot of them feel really thick. Almost no itchyness on the scalp but a lil bit. When should i wash my dreads and what to do about the loose hairs?? Does wearing a big beanie have any effect?? they look too poofy to wear out in public just yet. Thanks.

Hi from South Texas

Introduce Yourself

My name is Robert, I am 20 and I live in corpus Christi Texas ( the tip of Texas that goes in the gulf of Mexico). I have used the site quite a lot but decided to wait till I got my second set going. I had started dreading awhile back but started over bcuz I didnt like the way it was started (wax). I just started and finished my second set today(9-03-11) THANKS to the help of my mom.

I have wanted dreads for a really long time bcuz my hair is sooo ridiculous to do anything else. I have like 10 cow licks on random spots that make my hair go all crazy. Plus i was a scar magnet as a kid so short hair is a no go. I love not doing anything with my hair besides cleaning it bcuz i am uber lazy. I love the freeness and wild and crazyness.

I decided to go the waxless route this time and just try back combing and RnT on some. I am still learning as I go so im excited to see what will happen with my new dreads. I am open to any ideas on how to maintain and clean them. I know the basics but can never learn enough.... Although im not a fan of the picks here is a pic of how they look after a couple hours.

love the site, SE you saved my first set.
