loose hair at scalp

Dread Maintenance

sorry i know this must be a question which always comes up but just wanted your guys opinions. whats the best way to dread the loose hair at the bottom of dreads/near scalp? is it with a crochet hook like explained in this video?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dr4wqlfvruI&feature=related

oh and should i put in rubber bands at the scalp/bottom of dreads to help them dread in?

A thank you, and more questions :)

Dread Maintenance

I have my dreads finally! it took over 2 days to completely dread em all and they look great, thank you to everyone on this website, i am so glad i didnt go down the route of knotty boy products or something, its so good to know they are completely natural.

now for more questions :)

my dreads are about 5 inches long now, most of them are sticking up so i wear a headband over them when i go outwhich makes themfall backwards... but its also encouraging them to go down backwards normally(and i dont want backwards). As they grow, will they be able to fall forwards too (after time)? sorry i havnt explained very well, tell me if you want me to elaborate..

also I still have elastic bands at the tips of the dreads, im scared that if i remove them my dreads will unravel, should i keep them in or? Cos i dont want to 'nub' the ends either i want the tips to be spiky/fine (well just not dreaded).. kinda like this dudes:

thank you againfor any help

what happens next??

Dread Maintenance

ok so today was the big day. ive dreaded my over 4 inch hair - backcombing method. after i dreaded, i put a band at the bottom and top of each dread... this is where i'm up to, i dont really know what to do next.

i have asian hair so my hair is terrible for dreading naturrally so shall i spray sea salt water on it? when shall i remove the bands? or shall i put some aloe vera gel on it?

at the minute i just look like a crazy spiky haired man :) haha, i just want some idea of what happens next, thank you in advance.. x

Aloe vera gel question :)

General Questions

i read somewhere that buying aloe vera gel in bottlescan be bad? :S

ive just bought this http://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/fruit-of-the-earth-aloe-vera-100-gel-p5876.html?utm_source=sfeed&utm_medium=google&utm_term=Fruit-Of-The-Earth-Aloe-Vera-100%-Gel&utm_campaign=main

will that be ok for my dreads? or do i really need to get a plant?

and at first i thought you washed your hair withaloe veraxD

but how do you exactly use it? ive started dreading yet but i will soon...

do you apply it to all the dreads like everyday? do you apply it to the scalp?

i just want to know what exactly i do with it... so many questions for dreads!thank you

About to start dreading but have some concerns....

Dread Maintenance

ok, i have my 100% aloe vera gel.

i will wash my hair thoroughly with it.

then i will section my hair with dread bands and twist rip n backcombe n stuff with a nit combe.

then i will remove the bands.

sound good? am i missing anything?

what im concerned about is my hair can get a bit greasy at times, when i wash my hair do i rinse it with water and use the aloe vera gell all the time?

and i also have mild dandruff which can get bad and irritating at times, any solutions for this? i can imagine a really bad itch with newly dreaded hair will be frustrating.

thank you for any help.

[CallForHelp!] How do you go about dreading MY hair?

Dreading Methods

cool ok thanks for the advice everyone, but you see i could leave my hair forever and i dont think it would ever dreadlock naturally thats just what my hair is like, it needs some influence like salt water. and do i just put the band at the bottom of the dread (scalp) or shall i put another like half way or anything?

[CallForHelp!] How do you go about dreading MY hair?

Dreading Methods

hi guys. just found this website and i love it!

ive been leaving my fluff of hair for about 4 months and its over 3 and a half inch now. my mum is filipino so i have reallythick, soft asian hair. my mum is now saying i look like bruce lee xD cos i have the same hair as him:

http://www.google.co.uk/images?hl=en&xhr=t&q=bruce+lee&cp=3&wrapid=tljp129995261602504&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1345&bih=583

but i really dont like this and i wanna dread as soon as. i dont want like perfect dreads, i want messy dreads sorta like this girls':

but im just confused on how i go about converting my bruce lee hair into cool messy dreads. there are so many different methods and its all so confusing to me. i wanna do my dreads myself with the help of my girlfriend, i just need to know how. im thinking sea water, and twist and backcombe with elastic bands through the dreads... am i going down the right lines?

im a total newbie. sorry if ive missed any important information out, just ask. thank you for any help in advance. namaste
