Wouldnt mind my dreads being a bit thicker..

Dread Maintenance

Hello family :)
I'm about 9 months into my dreading adventure!
FileNotFound?transform=rotate(90)&width=448&height=600
Here is a shot of my dreads from the back, and im in love with them.
My dreads range from heaps of different sizes. Some the size of an office pen/ pencil, some as thick as a sharpie, some as thin as the head of a pin. i reckon the variety is kickass :P

but i have this dread on the side of my head which i have named "The great deku tree".
Its a congo of about 3 dreads, and it's my favourite dread on my whole head.
i LOVE the size of my deku tree, and id love for the rest of my dreads to be around that size. (I'ts roughly the exact size of a harmonica if you were to stand it up straight)
Here is a pic of the deku tree.
FileNotFound?transform=rotate(90)&width=450&height=600

is it possible to get my dreads to join together this late in the process? about 70% of my dreads are mature ( In my opinion. they feel the same as my cousins dreads and his are 10 years old)
And i have very few congos. is there anything i can do to get the rest of my dreads to congo up?
(I have thought about putting beads on them, but to me that seems silly, like tying 2 ropes together and expecting them to join. but i could be very wrong)
Cheers guys, any input is appreciated. Much love :)

I have a HUGE congo that is giving me some grief.

General Questions

morning/afternoon ladies and gents!
i didnt quite know which category this fit into so i thought id try my luck here.

NOW, im absolutely loving me dreads. im 8 months in. i have a GIANT congo on the left side of the back of my neck. i already have a beaverstail ( which i think is totally kickass ) but this is ridiculous.

Its thicker than my wrist yo.
i do NOT want a dread thicker than my wrist.
everytime i pull it apart, i wake up and its all back together.
Luckily, this congo isnt too far along. at the moment the victim dreads are just kind of SHEETED together, so i feel i still have time to do something about it.

any tips or info would be GREATLY apprecciated.
You are more than welcome to share past experiences with sort of thing.

thanks guys.

My girlfriend is considering dreads.

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Howdy family!

so, since my dreads have taken the turn for the awesome, my girlfriend has taken a serious liking to them. and she wants to begin the natural process right away.

BUT!! "DUN DUND DUNNNNNNNNNND"

she works at front end of a leading grocery store. ( not sure if im allowed to say which one , copyrights etc )

now , to work at front end, she needs immaculate presentation. her bosses and managers already hound anyone with hair that is slightly messy.

so what gives man, does anyone have any ideas, or any stories about beginning the natural process in a Nazi like environment?? any ways you got around it?? any ideas for her?

iv told her that if she DESPERATELY wants dreads then she might have to consider using wax to keep a professional look. which would be a bummer, but we may be out of options.
thanks in advance guys!

peace

an idea/

Dreading Methods

FIRST;

and update!

my natural dreads are coming alongmagnificently! I AM 5 MONTHS BRUSH FREE!

the back of my head is well and truly dreaded, and seemingly mature too! the sides are coming along great (which was a problemjusta couple months ago)
my fringe is also dreading up very nicely, and i am immensely satisfied with progress.

I also have a large congo consisting of 3 dreads that i have decided to keep on the left hand side of my head. HE IS AND FOREVER SHALL BE; THE GREAT DEKU TREE!

NOW;
to the discussion!

recently i have been letting my friends add whatever they want to my dreads. whether it be feathers, shells and such whatnot.
now, my girlfriend recently wrapped up some of my loose hair in cotton, and for decoration, added a shirt button to it.
iv had cotton wrapped into my hair before, and the result of leaving it wrapped for a few weeks, nearly a month, is ... a perfect dread, waiting to be released from its woollychrysalis.
NOW! what i would like to know... has anyone actuallyjusttried:
sectioning the hair... wrapping sections in cotton... leaving for a month... taking off cotton.. and voila! dreads???? i know the favored method for dreads around here is oh-natu-ral, but im surprised i havent heard of anyone doing this before as opposed to the natural process, or any OTHER kind of process for that matter!

YOUR THOUGHTS GUYS!! I WANT THEM!
sort of. any one got any experience in this matter?
anyone tried it?
anyone know someone who's tried it?
YOUR THOUGHTS!
GO!

Dread Maintenance

hello my dready family, im in my 4th month of dreading, and finally the hair on the front and sides of my head is starting to dread ( a month ago it was just the back ). the dreads at the back are a nice size, diameter wise. ( just a bit bigger than a pencil ) the rest are really varied, but still not as big as the dreads on the back of my head. will this change? are they going to get thicker? if so, how long a waiting period am i looking at?

DreadHeadHQ's dreadbeads.

Dread Accessories

So today i decided was about time i got some beads for my dreads. i didn't know where else to buy them so i checked out dreadheadhq just out of curiousity. i was surprised at how cheap some of the beads were, and decided to get 2 packs of wooden beads.

i checked postage and it claimed N/A. so alltogether my buy should've been about 3 dollars total. once i reach checkout, i see in the corner of the screen that postage was in fact $53. AMERICAN. ( im australian) what the fuck gives, johnny? iv bought speaker sets and instruments from overseas, and never saw the postage go over $15!!

i never used to have much of a problem with johhny clean, as i never tried the wax, and some of my friends actually used his wax with good results, so i never held a grudge. but this is a fucking rip off! . i might as well go into the woods and spend an hour whittling for the same results for free.

anyone know where i can buy some nice beads without losing nearly a days pay? this is insanity.

DRYING!

Dread Maintenance

howdy all, ever since my backcombed dreads... FELL out :piv been trying to be a bit more gentle for my natural approach.iv been going natural for about 2 months now, and the back of my head is fully dreaded, and rock hard.all of my original curls are all individual curly dreads now, ( which is pretty awesome if you ask me.)iv been washing my hair every 2nd morning with dishwashing liquid, and doing a baking soda wash every saturday night. ( i try to meet this standard anyway :P)when i dry my hair, i either just press a towel against my dreads and let them drip dry afterwards. but if i have work, i put a towel over my hands , hang my head to one side and do a sort of .... palm roll motion i guess. i then switch sides of my head, dry, do the same to the back and front, and then just ruffle the top of my head with my towel. it dries them REALLY quickly, but is there a chance that my drying methods are hindering my progress?i want the rest of my head to dread up like the back, its been like this for nearly 2 months now, and i miss having a whole head of dreads.all your advice, stories, tips etc are welcome :)
