when will this phase end?

Dread Maintenance

yeah. she was on not too long ago complaining about pain and headaches. i have a feeling she ended up taking her dreadlocks out:(

Dread Maintenance

a pic would help but i think we have the same concerns. i'm not as far along as you in my journey (6mo.)but i have some sections that are zig zaging up from the bottom. looks like a big heavy mass hanging from the ends. i was hoping for wispy ends but i guess thats not going to happen now. maybe it has to do with hair texture? i have fine hair. i was actually considering combing them out the other day because i definitely don't like how its looking.

how much separating should you be doing in the beginning?

Dreading Methods

when i started with my natural journey i was separating almost daily because i was always worried about congos. fast forward six months and i've learned that i was basically undoing any progress i was having. i separate now about twice a month. with my soft, slow knotting hair at this point a congo would be a welcome site. i wouldn't worry too much. it takes a while to really get some knots so tight they're going to be almost impossible to separate. someone on the boards told me not to separate in a mirror because it causes you to over think it and do too much. now i just separate by feel while watching t.v. a whole lot easier and i don't have to look in the mirror at my dreaded mess:)

Concerning the use of rubberbands.

Dread Maintenance

wow! your hair is really pretty! looks like the rubber bands didn't do any harm to them.

Never attached pics before so sorry if it's huge! I'm a bit nervous about the bleach damaging them too but I make sure they're rinsed very thoroughly. On the downside it does make them quite dry for a week or so after, can you recommend anything to soften them up a bit? If you fancy lighter dreads you could try lemon juice? I know it works for "normal" hair so I don't see why it wouldn't for dreads!

we're twins! lol:) your hair is a lot thicker than mine though. yours will probably blend in with the rest of your hair.
