meg's (mostly) natural timeline

i started feeling the pillow thing on the back of my head that i had when i last gave dreading a try (backcombing), so i thought i'd nip it in the bud before i got lazy with separating again :P

AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers

  • i began with hair down to my armpits on dec. 13, 2010
  • not natural hair colour (dark brown/black); two applications of lush's caca rouge henna
  • shampoos used: suave daily clarifying shampoo every few days (from dec. 13 - ~jan. 17th), nature clean herbal shampoo (current)
dec. 26: eventually i'll get some beads to help with the sectioning, but i feel pretty on top of it right now. i try to separate a couple times a day; my hair loves to knot!
above: 1 week, 6 days

would you cut off your dreds for your job

General Talk

Not for a job, I wouldn't cut. My hair is completely unrelated to the skills I can provide a job. If an employer doesn't want to hire me because of my hairstyle, and disregards my abilities to do the job efficiently, then I don't want to be working for them.Of course, that's the ideal. If I'm in dire straits and I'm desperately in need of a job, then it's a different story. But I'll cross that bridge if I ever get to it.

Help! Save My Dreads

don't stress! just leave them alone for now, and let them do what they were meant to do :) out of curiosity, how did you start your first set, and how long before you combed them out?

Help! Save My Dreads

also, having dreads of different sizes isn't really an issue either, unless you'd like them all to be about the same size, which i think you could deal with when they start to lock up a bit, and either combine or separate some to get some uniformity in there.try not to worry! all that's really required of you to get awesome dreads is a lot of patience, keeping them clean and residue free, and separating to prevent them all congoing together :)

Help! Save My Dreads

you really shouldn't be using rubber bands or string to keep things separated in the first place, so try not to worry there :)

as for products, all that is really necessary is to keep them clean, which can be done with a baking soda/apple cider vinegar (acv) wash.

what method did you start your dreads with? t&r, natural, backcombing, etc.

HELP! I smell like feet!

Dread Maintenance

Did you mix the bs in with your water/acv mixture? From my understanding, the vinegar is to be separate, after the bs/water wash.
