Anyone else have this problem?

General Questions

Mine is doing the same thing and Im only about a month in. Fuzz city and my 'baby dreads' are natting like crazy. I have to separate 3-5 times a day. I do think that its because theyt are in the very back of my head underneath the top layer of hair and I cant get all the way to the root to separate. I have to have my daughter help me. I think I have alot of crossing hairs.

Losing Length?

General Questions

I'm doing my dreads naturally. I've got a few going really well right now, on the underneath of my hair in the back. But they are shrinking ALOT. Will all of them lose this much length? I'm wondering if the T&R will help me keep more of the length? Is it just this method? Just this particular dread? What should I expect?

Just Counted 40 Baby Dreads!!

General Talk

Thanks :)And I think I figured it out. Ive just been separating from the tips up. It was jsut pushing the knots up to my scalp and making a msssive knot. I just went through and made sure that there was definitions on each dread. The roots are still really loose but now they are at least separated better. pixie said:

Ive been separating but just tearing up into the root. There is still matting AT the root. So I need to seprate at the root and not from the tip up? Im so confused. soaringeagle said:
if u mean they are all knotted together at the roots then u should start seperating into the sizes u want they will thicken u can let some combine but u want to seperate all tye way to the scalp to get distinctly seperate dreads
they look awesome im so happy for u

Just Counted 40 Baby Dreads!!

General Talk

I cant believe there are that many! 40! Its been just under 3 weeks. 20 days to be exact, since I started my dreads (over from crochet) naturally.I'm sure that some will combine, since alot of them are really tiny. Most are all in the back of my head still and underneath the top layer of my hair (thats normal right?) I do have 3-4 that are on the top layer but that's it. I must sleep on my back. lol.But 40? If they all stay so tiny, I will have like 150 dreads. At least.Wow. :)But, is it normal that my hair is a big massive knot under there with the dreads coming out of it?Here is a close up pic of a few of them. :)

Introduce Yourself

Oh my gosh. Yes. It would make a delightful childrens' novel!! Write it!! :)Beautiful story Pixie. Sister Rags said:
Pixie, your story is magnificent. Not one I will forget. Your sis like a "storybook" dread tale...it needs illustrations. I can just see the book...imagine : )

General Talk

It's fine by me :)Take it from someone who had crochet, they are everything SE said and more. And, if someone truly wants dreads for all the reasons that they should (not just for vanity sake) then I would think that you wouldn't feel good about it inside. Or maybe that was just me, but I know that I wanted my dreads to be a journey, and when I had them crocheted, I felt like I cheated myself.Just my 2 cents .
